Session 2: The Old Catacombs and Beyond Report
General Summary
The party confronted a cultist in the main burial chamber of the tomb under the city.
After the failed attempt to assassinate the cultist he summoned some lesser undead and fled through a secret passageway. A battle ensued and the rogue nearly found herself surrounded and overwhelmed until the paladin and cleric pushed through the small horde with magic and steel. The rogue gave chase to the cultist ahead of her party and encountered him lying in wait at the bottom of a winding passageway and he did not escape the encounter. The group caught up and searched the body finding gold, a ceremonial dagger and a strange focus with markings that appeared to be demonic in origin. After examining the body the party determined it to be a strange hybrid of human and undead, they burned it and ignored the rest of the escape passage.
They ascended back to the main room and opened the large, ornate coffin that had not been used to summon undead. Within this, the party found a pair of magical bracers that could protect whoever wore them. When the party attempted to replace the large, stone lid using the levitation magic of the rogue they mishandled it and sent it crashing into the back wall. Upon returning to the surface the party gave information and vague directions to the tomb to the Night Guard and retired to the Splintered Bone Inn. During the night some members found that their doors had been opened but they were relieved to see that none of their possessions had been tampered with. The party embarked on a trip to secure supplies.
The Rogue went in search of poisons and decided to relieve a wealthy-looking gambler of his gold. In the process, she brazenly approached him and caused a collision wherein he dropped his bags of money and she made off with one. She used the gold to buy poison and armor without regard for who she had stolen from.
