The Duchy of Cirencester (SEER-en-sest-er) is a duchy within the Grand Duchy of Devarin. It is located at the far north of the nation, stretching into the Middle Plains. The current Duke is Quennore Silverleaf, 2nd Duke Cirencester.
History
The Duchy of Cirencester was formed in 412, then as the Kingdom of Drostan. The kingdom was formed after a local notable elf Ianmyar Silverleaf, then less than 100 years old, led a slave rebellion against the warlords of the region. Ianmyar was chosen to lead the newly freed people, and under his rulership, the area prospered. Declared king, Ianmyar named the kingdom "Drostan", the elvish word for freedom. In 552, fearing a war from the southwestern neighbor, the Kingdom of Edror, Ianmyar forged an alliance between the two Kingdoms by marrying his daughter to the then ruler, Reshum Ruhkum, 1st King Edror. On Reshum's passing his half-elven daughter Lihra Ruhkum, Ianmyar's Great Niece, struck a deal with her Great Uncle to forge an political union between the two nations. Drostan would swear fealty to Edror, becoming the Duchy of Cirencester, and in exchange would gain the might and protection of the new nation, which would be dubbed Enerias. Ianmyar accepted, becoming personal advisor to the crown until the overthrow of House Ruhkum, in 976. In 1144, Ianmyar died, and the title passed to his son, Quennore Silverleaf.Economy
Cirencester is a land of varied economy. Traders from the north pass through Cirencester, selling their wares before passing on from the nation. Cirencester exports these goods to the rest of the nation in turn. Cirencester also enjoys a historically strong presence of craftsmen of all types, from jewelry to armor to machinery to art. These goods are considered master works, and are highly sought after by other nobles in the Grand Duchy.Dukes Cirencester (412)
