Duchy of Athelney

The Duchy of Athelney (ATH-el-knee) is a duchy within the Grand Duchy of Devarin. It is located in the north east, bordered on the south by the Wyrmling Mountains and the Unbroken Sea. The current Duke is Georguy Dene, 18th Duke Athelney.

History

The Duchy of Athelney was formed in 612 when the area to the east of the Kingdom of Drostan petitioned the king for protection in the face of northern ranging steppe tribes. The petition was accepted, and a notable local Kaia Dene was installed as the Duchess of the new region. In 643, Drostan and its neighbor Edror formed a political union, resulting in the formation of the Kingdom of Enerias. In 976, following the movement of the capital to the Duchy of Devarin, the Kingdom of Enerias became known as the Grand Duchy.

Economy

The economy of Athelney is a mixed one, but the largest exports of the region are timber and ores. These items are shipped across the nation and primarily used for new constructions. Athelney is one of the few regions within Devarin to have groves of Ironwood, an incredibly strong timber commonly used for warships.
