The Cynthetic Church
By her we left, by her we shall return.
The girl ducked into a narrow passageway as the procession approached down the main street. Seven figures slowly drifted down the tarmacked road, their trailing robes of silver shimmering in the bright sun. She covered her ears as their electronic choir reverberated through the streets, the voices in her head quieted. The chanting grew silent as the Megabyte of Cynthetica smoothly turned towards her, the simple rune-carved silver headband covering his eyes.
"Child of the ethereal, you must come with us. It's time to take them home."
The collective worshippers of the goddess of Ethereal, Cynthetica, the Cynthetic Church is seen as a necessary oddity in the modern age. With holdings in every major settlement, the Church's presence is felt throughout the world, it's priests overseeing the connections to the Ethereal Net and ensuring that the natives of Material and Ethereal planes understand which side of the 'Net they belong.
Once known as the Cult of Cynthia, the Church has gone from a minor religious movement in bygone eras to the dominant faith in Ekklisian society. The Church holds immense power in the city, controlling not only the technomancy required to enter the D.E.N, the divine arts of resurrection but also the fate of an entire race of people as the lost souls of the Ethereal find their way home where they are granted bodies by the Church.
