Pink-Eyed Elves

The Berdulets (IPA: /bɜrdolɛt/, common name Pink-Eyed Elves, Pink Elves, or Irradiated Elves) are not technically an individual species: rather a subspecies of fae born from the radiation of great nuclear disasters. However, due to their social isolation and separation from their genetic ancestors they prefer to consider themselves one species. Usually found living in major nuclear exclusion zones such as Chernobyl and Hiroshima, they are a highly secretive and solitary race, preferring to live their lives apart from other species -- mostly because of the radiation that constantly surrounds them, irradiating any they are in contact with for too long. Despite this, there are some fighting to give the Berdulets spaces of their own to live comfortably in, and eventually recognition in The Elven Council -- though this is a slow process, as many are not even aware of their existence. Though "Berdulet" has been accepted as the name of their species, many pink-eyes prefer not to be called that, as it is an appropriation of the term they use to describe those among their species who are corrupted and violent.
