Ignatius Marilia

Ingatius is an important martyr, although not officially recognised by the marilian church as one. He is rumoured to be a bastard child of the Bohemian king Ulrich III. and is therefore commonly referred to as the "Peasant King". He was excecuted by being cut into a hundred pieces, an act that sparked a peasant revolt that resulted in the secularization of the state at the end of the Renaissance era.   He was ordained as a priest when he was 16 years old and while travelling the country, he quickly became a prominent figure among the intelligentsia with his religious and philosophical views. He became thorn in the eye of the marilian church because he heavily critised its expenditured and exposed many of the background dealing of the most important members of said church. He tought that the church should not invest into building grand cathedrals and chapels to please the God (and enrich their own status with numerous artworks) - the money should be invested into the community to take care of the poor ones, which is what the God would have surely preferred. For these views he attracted many followers but his enemies were more powerful than the common people.   He was accused of heresy and excomunicated some 30 years later, he spend 3 years in hiding, but he ended up betrayed and dragged to the prison and after a very hushed up and private trial, sentenced to death and not allowed to be buried.   He wrote three books during his lifetime, though two of them are presumed to be lost and burnt along with his remains. Any original copies written during the the Renassaince era are extremely rare and locked securely in private collections.   A branch that got secluded from the original marilian church - Order of the Golden Chalice - is now the second biggest church in Bohemia.

Czech This Out: The most famous religious figure in the Czech Republic is Jan Hus, who was burnt at the stake on 6th of July 1415 (which is national holiday now), for basically preaching that clergy should not be full of greedy assholes. His death sparked the most famous conflict in our history - the Hussite Wars, which - for example - inspired the game Kingdom Come Deliverance. Feature History made an EXCELLENT video on this topic - link is here. It contains holy crusades, badass one-eyed general, singing, early pistols and the creation of the term "defenestration". The video's fairly short and well worth watching!
