19-06 Preparing for Summer Camp 2019

Summercamp is a marathon, and all Marathons needs some planning. They get you motivated and get you ready to go right out of the gate. Give us an WA article that summarizes what you want to cover in Summer Camp.
Preparation? Hmmm... How do you prepare for something you have never experienced?   With World Ember, it was kind of easy. It was about the sheer number of words, so I went and gathered ideas what to write on. I decided what culture of Yvari to focus on (the Council of Archmages) and spent most of November brainstorming and tinkering with my monster spreadsheet that by now has become the master plan to Yvari (and takes like 2 minutes to load whenever I open Google Sheets. Oops.) But Summer Camp?

What is Summer Camp?

  From last years blog:
Summer Camp’s our largest event of the year, consisting of 30 prompts of 300 words or more (called Duels) over the course of 30 days- beginning July 1st at midnight BST, and ending on July 31st at 23:59 BST; in short, it’s a completion challenge where the goal is to finish as many of the Duels as you can before the clock runs out.
So, how do you prepare for an unknown set of prompts?   I'll be honest: I have no clue. And many others I talked to don't, either. I do remember, someone mentioning that Summer Camp challenges you to use all templates, and so I'm gonna take a similar approach as I had in World Ember: Choose a culture, prepare a large set of ideas and hope for the best!

Culture Choice: Free Cities

This time, I'm gonna try and work on my Free Cities. Celsa has already been an entry for the colony challenge, and I really enjoyed writing it, as well as doing the CSS. And since the layout fits the summer theme (this article uses the Free Cities-layout!), it's kind of an obvious choice.   So, be prepared for a carribean vibe with monkeys, lots of sailing and pirates! Here's my list of current ideas:
  • Monkey-brewed spirits
  • Pirate's Lair
  • Treasures and Gemstones
  • Sailboats
  • Ghost Ships
  • Kraken? Maybe?
  • Punitive Expeditions
  • Scavenger Hunts
  • Fair and not so fair maidens
  • Bloodthirsty Spirits? Anybody? :D
