The Daedalin

The glow of their cores bring to life these stalwart automatons, granting them life and soul alike. Daedallin are a species made completely from inorganic material, often metal. They have free will, much like other species, and are free to act as they choose. This new, and mysterious species have not yet come to be common in the world. Many still find their metallic bodies and vibrating voices to be horrific. Some even go so far as to say they ate an affront to the gods themselves. Despite this, the Daedallin have etched out their own, individual paths into the world.   Personality   The Personality of a Daedallin varies just as much as any other sentient species. While some are altruistic, kind, and protective, others are sadistic, murdering sociopaths. Far more common is it for a Daedallin to be solemn, somber, or passive. One common motif among these metal setinels is dedication. Once a Daedallin hs decided their course in life, they typically do not waver even when met with impossible challenges. Daedallin can be fantastic allies, but those few who can be called your enemy would stop at nothing to see your end.   Physiology   Daedalin are maybe almost completely from metal. While there are few that have parts made from leather, or even stone, these individuals are exceedingly rare. They come in a variety of sizes, but appear exclusively humanoid. A phrase that caught on concerning Daedallin is "function follow form". Meaning that Daedallin are seeming built for whatever it is that they are passionate about. A roguish Daedallin would be slender, lighter, and much more agil than those who pursue glory in combat.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Daedalin bodies lack any organic material. Their outer exo-skeleton is made of metals, though vary in type and strength. Little is known about the inner workings of a Daedalin, but it seems that they are "powered" by a central lode-like structure located in the chest of most Daedalin.

Genetics and Reproduction

Daedalin can not reproduce in the same way that organic species reproduce. New Daedalin have been "made", but this is a process that is guarded religiously by those who privy to it. Daedalin's refuse to share the knowledge of their births, and many have cited that there are religious consequences for doing so.

Growth Rate & Stages

Daedalin are born as they are. There is not maturity or growth stages for a Daedalin. They are born knowing language and skills, even particularly advanced ones.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Being inorganic, the Daedalin do not require food, sleep, or rest. They do not tire and have no need for sustenance. Most would say that they are truly immortal in that they do not show signs of aging.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Daedallin do not have a particular social structure for their race. Instead, they tend to confrom to the social structures of those cultures which they have chosen to be a part of.

Facial characteristics

Most Daedallin have some sort of eye-like structure and have heads, much like other humanoids. Almost all Daedallin lack mouths, though there is often some indication such as markings or breaks in metal plating that indicate their point of vocalizations. Some have compared this to armor in ascetic.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Daedalin have no homeland, but are most common in the northern regions of Anatole. There are few Daedalin refuges, usually small villages dedicated to religious or spiritual insight.

Average Intelligence

Daedalin are aware of their existence, and thefore sentient. They are able to learn languages and skills much the same as other species can. Most who encounter Daedallin will tell you of their wisdom and insight, for it is introspection and reflection are common themes among the Daedallin.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Daedalin can feel, smell, hear, and see. It is unsure if these automatons sense the world in the same manner as organic species do, but it is evident that they can use their sense at least as well, if not better, than other humanoids.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Daedallin names seem to conform to other naming conventions outside of their own. Often this depends on where the Daedalin was made, and for what purpose. Often, Daedallin will take the surname of a town or village of their birth, or a specific place in which they have emotional ties.

Gender Ideals

Daedallin have no sex, and seem to choose their own gender based upon their own designs and likes. Most Daedallin sound and appear masculine, but it is unknown if gender plays any role among Daedallins other than personal preference.

Average Technological Level

Daedallin have a natural aptitude for working Magicite and engineering. In light of their lack of a common social structure, they themselves can only foster the technologies of the larger populaces around them.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The language of the Daedallin is impossible for most other sentient races to learn. This is due to the language being based upon sonorous vibrations that can not be replicated by other species. These complex vibrations must be felt and heard fr the puposes of communication, and organic species simply lack the necessary means to fully understand the language.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Daedallin have created small, but unique bands of towns among the dry regions of northern Anatole. Their culture is steeped in a deep religious traditions surrounding their creator-god, Daedalus. Introspection, reflection, and meditation are fundamental parts of the daily lives of these Daedalin. They can go for days in deep meditation or chanting without the need for rest, sleep, or sustenance. According to thr Daedallin, the purpose of these activities is to gain self-realization trhough communion with self and God.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Another part of the Daedallin culture is that of creation. They believe that in creating, they are closer with their god. As such, many Daedallin towns are littered with artistic, usually religious carvings, sculptures, or murals. The greatest of these murals sits in the canyon-city of Daedrell near the border of Mersscene and Yomraih.

History

The Fist Daedalins appeared some 500 years before the modern age in the modern day regions of Yomriah and Mersscene. Very little is known about their origins. According to the Daedalin, they were first given life by their creator, Daedalus. In their Myths, Daedalus created the Daedallin as an act to save the life of a human.

Common Myths and Legends

Most Daedalin Myths are based around their god-creator, Daedalus, and his two sons: Icarus and Maroh. In this legend, Daedalus walked the world to find a way to heal his son, Maroh, from a terminal illness. He begged the goddess of death to spare his son, even ofering his own soul in it's place. Wen Kovalla denied him, Daedallus sought a way to prolong his son's life. It was then, that he created the first Daedalin in the image of his son, and gave to him the secrets of the Daedallin. The Daedallin believe that, in creating a new life, Daedalus ascended into godhood, forever watching over and guiding the Daedallin.

Wow! These are really cool, and interesting! I like that they have a bit of mystery surrounding them, especially in regards of their origin and such. Makes me think of sentient robots, actually. At least, that's how I interpreted them.

Thanks so much! I am finally starting to get back to working on the world! So much to do. You aren't far off from the mark. I was inspired by a myriad of sources from D&D, movies, and the occasional game. I wanted a people that felt almost out of place in the world but while also highlighting the world's recent progress with mixing magic and tech.
