Discovery
In 74 PS, explorers were walking through the Crystal Cavern trying to figure out how to harness the energy that was being contained in the main crystal. One of the explorers had a small, glass prism that fell out of his pocket and rolled towards one of the smaller crystals. When the two items came into contact, the prism gained a faint glow. The explorers noticed this and placed the prism on the center crystal. It gained more energy to the point where the prism was giving off a stronger glow, but it still was not fully lit. After five years of trying to create a technology that could extract the energy more, a natural science professor at the Crystal City University by the name of McOllim discovered the answer. The technology, dubbed the McOllim Extractor, was an hourglass shaped device that drew the energy into a small prism then magnified the energy with a curved glass. This device only filled one prism at a time, but it brought the prism to full brightness.

It is used to power crystal weapons.
Refinement
The energy just gets absorbed into perfect glass or crystal prisms. Nobody knows why!
