Lou was born in the small southern town of Cloudford in county Ycehelm, Proitania in 151 REP among frozen mountains that never lost their snow, and small harbor that froze solid four months of the year.
His family were fishers who struggled against the winter snows to harvest and smoke enough fish to feed themselves and their village through the long cold months. He worked as much with a net and rod as he did a spear and cudgel to bring in the whale and shark that would sustain them.
One day, when he was 17 (168 REP), a Nofraan trade ship found their small harbor, and Lou was entranced by the vibrant color of their clothes and the rich bounty filling their hold. He'd never imagined people living a different life from the hard struggle he had always known.
To the shock of his parents, he snuck away and asked the captain of the trade ship, Franwarith Waeshorn, if he could join the crew. To his surprise, Franwarith agreed.
His father cried when he told him, but his mother raged at him for abandoning them and their way of life. In the harshness of her words, he heard the voice of the angry winter storms he wanted to escape. He didn't respond. He simply packed up his simple belonging and ran off to join the crew of the Rhyl.
After 16 years of adventure on the sea, he bought the Nimble Eel from Dostrath the Nightfair.
