The Paladins of Draconis
Established when the galaxy faced crisis, the paladins were always meant to be the finest protectors The Empire and it's derivatives could muster. The Paladins' organization was, at its inception, divided into 13 major orders, with all of these having the power to create minor orders whenever they saw fit. This has led to, these days, the number of minor orders being disputed, but numbering at least 30. Fully trained paladins are genetically augmented warriors clad in the finest armour the galaxy had to offer. At their height, the Paladins of Draconis were keepers of peace the galaxy over for thousands of years. It is commonly accepted that, were it not for the Paladins, The Exatrophy would have won The Great War. Although they claimed victory, it came at the price of losing 4 of their major orders to madness. After the crisis was over, the Paladins and their remaining orders to keep the peace wherever they are needed; be it threats from without, or threats from within. A common saying in The Galactic Council, even to this day, is "need the job done right? Send the paladins."
However, with the The Great War growing ever more distant, more and more orders found themselves drawn to Dasha , where the strong protect the weak. Now, when the galaxy is on the brink of civil war, it might soon be a reality that the Paladin Orders find themselves opposed once more...
Major Orders
Below is a list of all Major Orders established at the inception of the Paladins. 'Purged', here, refers to orders that were deemed disloyal by decree of The Elder Paladin and, as a result, wiped out; Their members hunted, their headquarters destroyed and their official records shredded. The Spectral Knights are labelled as 'Rogue', referring to the fact that they are deemed disloyal, but the order for a purge has as of yet not been given.Icon | Order Name | Current Status | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Eldritch Raiders | Purged | Specialists in warpcraft (the act of pulling from alternate realities to influence one's own), The Eldritch Raiders were notorious for plunging
friend and foe alike into chaos. During the Great War, the machinations of the titans got to their leader, corrupting their psyches and turning them against former allies. |
|
Frostbite Legion | Purged | Fear is a powerful motivator. The Frostbite
Legion know this better than anything. Recruiting mostly from the undead of their homeworld, the frostbite legion was known to terrify and force surrender more often then even firing one shot. During the great war, their leader surrendered to the titans. The order was purged shortly thereafter. |
|
Crown Guardians | Purged | Infamous for their doctrine of overwhelming
force, the Crown Guardians were the most trusted of the Emperor's protectors. Often accompanied by summoned familiars, they had exclusive access to the strongest arms the galaxy had to offer. During the Great war, their leader disappears and the rest of the legion fell in thrall of the titans, betraying the crown they swore to protect. |
|
Winged Lancers | Loyal | The term 'poster-boys' has never been more
applicable, for the Winged Lancers represent all the Paladins wish the galaxy to know. Bringers of justice, peace and security, the Winged Lancers have withstood any and all trails thrown at them gracefully. Even after the Great War, they are both the most numerous and most wide-reaching major order. |
|
Crescent Sons | Loyal | Any battlefield marked by scars and tears
in the flow of Caloric is highly likely to be the aftermath of a Crescent Sons mission gone south. Known for their 'no restrictions' policy on both technological and magical tinkering and their endless adaptability, the Crescent Sons, even in their dwindling numbers, remain a force to be reckoned with. |
|
Dark Eagles | Loyal | It is difficult to believe that heavily
augmented, power-armoured paladins can be considered stealthy. That is, until one has witnessed the work of the Dark Eagles. With their speciality equipment, the Dark Eagles can strike and disappear without as much as a whisper. Their status has always been hush-hush but it is said their numbers have been dwindling for a long time... |
|
Eclipse Lions | Loyal | Only two types of people would assault a
heavily fortified position; those that have lost their minds, and the Eclipse Lions. Name for their siege weaponry that often blocks the light of the stars, it is said the Eclipse Lions could even lay siege to Arthur, should the need arise. They are one of the few orders that has remained somewhat steadfast in numbers throughout time, but even they sustained heavy casualties during the Great War. |
|
Pyre Jackals | Loyal | When one thinks of 'paladins', one probably
does not think of the Pyre Jackals. Known for their absolute brutality in melee combat, they are often likened to a pack of mad, rabid dogs. While this isn't far from the truth, the jackals are, in reality, quite disciplined and restrained. Their bad publicity, however, has always relegated them to a niche and, as such, small numbers. |
