Captain Neville "Holler" Wesbridge

The shouts could be heard before we even saw the ship. Woops and howls, monstrous sounds. The signature of Captain Holler.
— Phillip Benson, from The Pirate's Call

Captain Neville "Holler" Wesbridge was one of the most feared pirates of the The Golden Gulf. He was born in 149 BMR and was executed for high piracy by hanging in 121 BMR.

Early Life

Neville Wesbridge was born in Delta to Marissa and Earl Wesbridge. When he was only six years old, his father left to work as a sailor. The letter detailing Earl's death at sea arrived only a year later. The small stipend that the Wesbridge family recieved from the shipping company was not enough to sustain them, leading Marissa Wesbridge to overwork herself to support them. She often beat Neville in drunken fury during her brief rests. At age 13, Neville ran from his home, joining a gang of streetrats.

Neville slowly gained respect of the streetrats, a gang called the Hollers, after the cries and shouts that they would spout as they fled from a crime. He became their leader at age 15. Neville was jailed for petty thievery when he was 17. The Hollers broke him out of prison, fleeing to the docks. There, they found a sailing ship, The Doubloon, owned by a shipping company and used it to flee from Delta. This ship would become the beginning of Holler's fleet and his base of operations.

A Life of Piracy

In 132 BMR Neville, now going by his moniker, Captain Holler, would organize the Hollers to become a pirate crew. They committed small time piracy, harrassing fishing boats and small time traders. They gathered some wealth, but Neville wanted more. Five years into his life of piracy, Neville was able to purchase the infamous Goldmouth Silk Co. maps in a black market auction.

Using the GSC maps, Captain Holler and his crew were able to track fairly unprotected merchant vessels. Holler gained a reputation for ruthlessness. Being killed by Holler's crew was considered a mercy. Many members of these ships' crews would join the Hollers, rather than being flayed and hung off the sides of their own ships as they sunk. The Hollers grew enough that they eventually required two more ships, The Specter and Selkie's Revenge.

The GCS, losing most of their profits to Holler and his crew, eventually went to the other shipping companies for help. In exchange for the public release of their trade route maps, the shipping companies put together a fleet of twenty warships to sen the Hollers from the bottom of the Golden Gulf.

A Last Stand and a Legacy

Smoke from the cannons and from burning ships blotted out the sun that day.
— Phillip Benson, from The Pirate's Call

Captain Holler scrambled his fleet, boarding Selkie's Revenge, his most well-armed ship. The Doubloon, Holler's fastest ship, was loaded with the pirate's riches and sent into the Golden Teeth. The Specter was sent to pick off any straggling ships in the merchant fleet. Nine merchant ships were sunk before The Hollers were defeated. The Specter sunk two and disabled three ships before they focused fire upon her. Selkie's Revenge sunk five ships and disabled one before it, and Captain Holler, were captured. The crew of The Doubloon evaded the merchant fleet for three days before she sunk after being struck by cannonfire and one of the rocks that makes up the Golden Teeth. Two merchant ships were sunk while pursuing her.

Captain Holler was tried for Grand Piracy and hung in Goldmouth in 121 BMR.
