Artisans

Artisans are humans born with the innate ability to pull from the world's unlimited magical potential and place some piece of it into an object, called a Conduit . These conduits are, in common understanding, an Artisan's only option for connecting to magic. All artisans have a supernatural tenacity that allows them to create conduits, however this tenacity blocks the forming of pacts with supernatural beings (as these pacts / oaths come with a certain level of mental / physical manipulation as the supernatural being essentially treats the human as a conduit for their own abilities).
Artisanship is believed to be hereditary, although the origin of Artisanship itself is debated. The most prevalent, and oldest, theory is that the ancient goddess of creation blessed certain humans with portions of her power to maintain her presence among mortals through them. This theory may also further explain why Artisans cannot form pacts with other deities and lesser supernatural beings - a pact already exists within their very blood.
In the modern day, Artisanship is a highly regulated process. Many Artisans in the nation of Thynros train and study in hopes of one day entering the prestigious Artisan's Guild , however there is a notable presence of rogue Artisans who prefer to work outside of the strict rules set forth for those born with their prized ability. Either way, if an Artisan ever wishes to become anything powerful or notable, they must dedicate themselves to studying the natural laws of the world. When accessing the pure chaos of magical potential, the only way to control some of that chaos is to ground it in reality, or at least reality as it is understood.
