Neidr Tanbaid

Neidr Tanbaid (Blazing Snake)   The Big green isn’t an inhospitable place, it actually nourishes the life that makes its home there. The most amazing species that lives there are the fire snakes as these are created from destruction. Commonly called fire snakes as the most common way to see them is after you’ve packed up your camp and put out the fire the embers form into a small snake. These are magical creatures and very sought after as they are a combination of all the elements, they are bound to the earth as they slither, they move like the wind and water rippling in ways that no tangible being should be able to. Created by both destruction and magic, it is the natural world righting a human wrongdoing against nature. In all cultures these are regarded as sacred and are regarded with the upmost respect. They are also able to survive all types of environment for example should a boat crash into the shore making the bank crumble and fall into the ocean, there will undoubtedly be a fire snake that will live in the ocean with those damaged bits of the earth.    At first glance these snakes are no different from any other, but the shape of their scales and their markings is what shows them as different. Instead of the scales forming a smooth skin like surface they are actually pointed so that they are spikey instead. They’re colourings are a light green underside that gets darker the closer it gets to the top of the snake, that then culminates in a blue/purple stripe down the back of snake from between the eyes to the tip of the tail. Some believe this glows or can shine depending on the light of the day but the blue is like no other found in nature. The snake’s size is dependent on the damage that has been done, should someone start a fire they need to keep them warm through the night, the snake will be small, slightly bigger than a worm. But should someone cut down a giant oak tree then the snake will be a big as one of the branches, as the damage that was done needs to be healed by something of as much worth to the natural world.
