Nixians

The Nixians are a smaller and rare offshoot of the Nallians, which live on the fringe of Nall and the Endless Sea of Ice. They take northern survival to the extreme with an aggressive outlook on who they interact with. Nixians are a hard people used to making tough choices to match their harsh environment.

If you are not helping us, you are harming us. There is no middle ground. If you are harming us, we will kill you.

The Nixians express this survival philosophy with no malice or ill intent, just a matter of fact approach that is pervasive throughout their lives.

Origins

The Nixians hold that they are descendants of the first men of the Endless Sea of Ice and elves. In actuality their elven bloodlines are so far removed to be anything other than a footnote in history.

Culture

Although the Nixians share most of the cultural aspects of the Nallians, instead of females achieving the position of tribal shaman, this position is achieved by who so ever shows the resolves, talent and merit to take and hold the position. They are called "Ghosts" or "Ice Devils" slang by the Nallians, but never to their faces.

Languages

The Nixians speak Nallish as their native tongue with most speaking rough version of common which they refer to as the Trade Tongue.

Industry, Art & Clothing

The Nixians rely almost exclusively on animal hides, pelts, Winter Drakes scales, and rare beasts for trade with the Nall and other outsiders visiting the Nall lands. They use tusks, teeth and claws to form weapons. Some of the older Nixians craft figurines from soft stone, ivory and bone.
Clothing and parka are made from animal skins, sewn together using needles made from animal bones and threads from sinew. Footwear is made from sealskin for men and woman. The Nixians commonly hunt winter wolves, seals, winter drakes, polar bears as well as ice fishing. A common survival item for the harsh Northern weather are snow goggles.
They have little or no use for technology as it is usually to complex to work in harsh environments, while repair can be difficult in emergencies in the middle of no where.

Relationship & Community

The division of responsibilities fall to those who can and should do a thing regardless of gender. The marital customs of the Nixians are not strictly monogamous, allowing the openness of variations. This allows for creative and flexible family structures. A community or tribe is a collection of families gathered together for common survival, as nomadic hunter-gatherers.

Elders

The oldest of the Nixian community hold the respected positions as the caretakers of wisdom, tradition and their peoples history.

Laws

The oral laws of the Nixians are simple and consist of three concepts

What has to be avoided

Generally rare, but when conflict or failure must be judged it is compared against these three concepts by the tribes shaman and elders.

They have little use for young god such as Lothian or gods of fate, as they believe that they craft their own fates by placing one foot or choice in front of the next.

This article was inspired by the short reference of the Nall people south of the Sea of Ice in the Ptolus Book, as well as the Inuit people of Canada and Alaska.
