Dubnos

Geography

The plane of Dubnos has five layers, these layers are listed from top to bottom:

  • Ciortai, the layer of Ephemeral and Memory
  • Lasrach, the layer of Flame and Predjudice
  • Salacal, the layer of Rock and Slander
  • Uisce, the layer of Water and Apathy
  • Gaoth, the layer of Air and Doubt

Each of the five layers contains a small portal to travel between the layers as well as natural grooves and cracks that leak into the other layers of Dubnos. In first two layers, Lasrach and Ciortai, are portals that can lead someone back to the Khallimare.

Ciortai, The Layer of Ephemeral and Memory

Ciortai, is the layer of spirits. Where the ghosts, ghouls, Baensidhes, Dullahan, Cherubs, and Archcherubs drift around when not haunting Khallimare. The material Ciortai is made from is transparent and intangible. It is made of the very ether itself. When looking at the land, Ciortai, appears to looks like a darkened and misty version of Khallimare, only with spirits roaming the entire land instead of side by side with the mortals.
The disc is made of three rings, these rings are as follows (arranged from outer to inner):
  • Outer Ring:
In the Outer Ring, there isn't as much demonic activity whereas Memory's Throne and the Inner Ring. Additionally, this ring would be the most hospitable for other demons and even some unlucky mortals. Additionally, this ring is the only section of Ciortai to not have a sight of Memory's Throne.
  •
  • Inner Ring:
In the Inner Ring, there is more demonic activity than the Outer Ring. A traveler of this section would see numerous Stamps fighting one another just to be able to have another bite of Quintessence, or even Stamps disappearing from this world to go haunt Khallimare. Additionally, the environment is more transparent and intangible. Foreign visitors of this section of Ciortai will also start to become intangible and translucent, as well as they will start to have frequent visions of their death.
  •
  • Memory's Throne:
In Memory's Throne is where the great Nightmare, Memory, lies and where this eldritch being chooses to reside. It sits on its throne, only coming off of the chair once every hours to do whatever it does in the dark. The land itself in Memory's Throne is completely translucent and intangible. Foreign visitors of this section, if they've already started turning into a Stamp, will rapidly begin decaying and transforming into the spectral creatures around the area.

The floor, once revealed appears to be made out of some sort of marble. Its walls, when shown, appear to be made completely out of fleshy/muscly material that appears to, if stared at long enough, move; twitch; or convulse sporadically before settling down.

The Throne is made of the white mist material that permeates throughout Ciortai. It is enscribed with eldritch writing that cannot be deciphered via any normal humane means.

Lasrach, Layer of Flame and Prejudice

Lasrach is the layer of Fire. Where Beithir, Leon Lasair, Caorthannach, Phoenix, and the Balor roam about searching for their next meals. Lasrach is one of the smallest layers diameter wise. It is unknown how big these layers are to begin with, but mages have been able to decipher that it is indeed smaller than Ciortai, but bigger than the layer Gaoth.

Additionally, the actual ground of this place is not ground at all, but instead it is made of charred flesh and still moving tissue. Inside the muscle are large chunks of brimstone rock as well as deposits of coal, prolonging the fires that consume the entire land. The scorched and fleshy land creates jagged and sharp edged gorges and hills. But it also has several caves that drip with a scentless liquid that resembles saliva.

There is one great monument in Lasrach, and that is Prejudice's Throne.

  • Prejudice's Throne:
Prejudice's Throne is actually a massive wall affixed to the back, legs, and seat of the chair. The walls is made from the faces of defeated demons. Each of the demons' faces are locked in an agonous scream for eternity. The wall also has a lever toward the eastern side. This lever can release a demon from Lasrach and send them directly into the world of Khallimare. If the visitor died and was sent to Lasrach, the switch will send them back into their body unharmed.

Salacal, Layer of Rock and Slander

Salacal is the layer of stone, rock, and raw metal. Where Lenan Sidhe, Knockers, and Dearg Due hide in the many caves and tunnel like system from the Nightmare, Slander. The disc size of Salacal is the second largest of Dubnos, nearly reaching the size that Ciortai.
There are two main levels to Salacal:
  • The Top Soil:
The Top Soil is the portion of Salacal that is above ground. Most demons won't be active in the Top Soil, but there are a few exceptions like the Formorian, Pooka, and Failinis.
  •
  • Jagged Tunnels:
The Jagged Tunnels are the portion of Salacal that is underground where most demons are active. This is where Greater Demons can be found as well as the Nightmare, Slander, whom one can find above ground too. Additionally, the Jagged Tunnel are a massive complex maze that only the Earth-Aligned Demons and Slander has figured out.

Uisce, Layer of Water and Apathy

In the dark depths of Dubnos lies a plane made completely of water. This is where demons such as the Siren, Hydra, Selkie, Scylla, Siorc Oighir, and Naiads lurk for their next meals, hunting, killing, and even cannibalizing each other if the need arises. Uisce is not a forgiving plane in Dubnos for it isn't only filled with one Nightmare, but two.
Uisce has three subsections in it:

  • Dawn Ring:
In the Dawn Ring, which is the first place any visitor (whether they're foreign or not) will appear after recently "stepping" into this layer. While in the dawn ring, people will have limited visibility, this is because the dawn ring is the closest to the Jagged Tunnels of Salacal.

The Dawn wing will also have more Lesser Demonic activity, while further downward will cause their numbers to dwindle increasingly.
  •
  • Dusk Ring:
In the Dusk Ring, travelers are more likely to not see any demonic activity. In this middle segment of water, you'll hear mostly nothing but silence. There will be the subtle moving of waves, but that is the only sound aside from one's own thoughts.
  •
  • Twilight Ring:
The Twilight Ring, also known as "the Depths," is the most busiest of the rings in Uisce. This is the Ring where both Nightmares rest and watch from their aqueous thrones.

Additionally, the twilight Ring is where Greater Demons such as the Siren, Scylla, Hydra, and even the Siorc Oighir, will be swimming around.

The Nightmares that lurk in these waters are Cafard and Apathy. While they are in this location, they are rendered utterly useless. This is due to the Uisce unique placement being beside the layer Saracal instead of being arranged in a vertical line with the other layers. It renders the Nightmares' ability to grasp at its prey using their mind, limited.

Gaoth, Layer of Air and Doubt

The "land" of Gaoth is in fact not land, but air. The layer of Gaoth in Dubnos is made completely of a darkened night sky with several storm clouds. This constant storm environment is held within a magical dome so its residents cannot escape. But escape is always a chance as the portal to the layer, Uisce, floats throughout the storm layer.
