Aramis Donadieu

Aramis is widely considered a hero in the history of humanity, much like his peers of the 69th South African Volunteer Unit - haha naughty number that was the result of its commander, Arno, being friends with the guy managing who was part of what units, due to the ridiculous feats he and his comrades pulled off. He often worked with Commander Arno in planning strategies against the varied enemies they fought, from the Goner Empire Earth Invasion Force to Kusa's Blood Missionaries to the Brothel Dogs Mercenary Company. His primary skills were acting and using sniper rifles and pistols, although he was also very competent in knife fighting, strategy, parkour, making explosives, general espionage and hand-to-hand combat.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Keeps himself fit but has frequent pain in his right shoulder due to a mission, done when he was 17 when he was temporarily extracted from the Antarctic, in which he got into Russian Space Force, got onto Russia's first military space station that could've been used to drop small armies and nuclear missiles onto any part of the planet, sabotaged it, got caught sabotaging it so everyone ditched the station and found that some of those jumping out grabbed multiple parachutes, leaving him and 3 Russian soldiers to fight over the last parachute, in which the last of them just grabbed the parachute and jumped out. Aramis jumped after them with his knife, killed the one with the parachute after a struggle, took the parachute off them, put it on, used it, pulled a shoulder tendon during this and was picked up on the verge of hypothermia by Joanna in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. This same shoulder has received further harm from it being the one he rests his sniper rifles against, and is the shoulder of his dominant arm.

Body Features

Has a few scars but the most notable features are the eyes. Underneath his clothes the chimerism is more obvious with areas of his skin being paler than the rest.

Facial Features

Wears bandage-like eye-patches, which vary in colours but are mostly white, grey, black or some form of camouflage. The skin around his functional blue eye is paler. Usually shaves facial hair, but has developed something bordering stubble a few times.

Physical quirks

Will limp slightly when tired because his left leg gets tired faster: this is because of that ol' chimerism making his left leg half a centimetre longer so a tiny bit more pressure is applied to it when he walks.

Really good aim and acting skills.

Apparel & Accessories

Wears whatever's appropriate for the situation. When he's not really doing anything he generally wears long sleeve shirts, jackets and tracksuit bottoms or other trousers that allow comfort and flexibility.

Specialized Equipment

Has a railgun sniper rifle, 3 pistols - one of which is a revolver, 2 knives and an assault rifle that he rarely uses. Doesn't bother with grenades because the lack of an eye means no depth perception. Possesses a bulletproof mask that covers the side of his face he can't see out of underneath his helmet. Standard bullet-proof Antarctic soldier armour, underneath which he has extra kevlar on his right side in the gap between his front and back plates to account for not being able to see attackers from that direction. Knows how to make explosives.

Personal history

Look to circumstances of birth to prep yourself for the rough childhood you're about to hear about.

Aramis, born in that ambulance van on its way to a hospital from a French McDonalds, entered the world with heterochromia, where each eye is a different colour, due to genetic chimerism, a condition where different parts of your body express different genomes (different parts of the body having different skin colours or skin tones is an example of this). Luckily for him, his chimerism didn't cause any autoimmune disease like it often does for others, but it did make his own mother - same individual who murdered her own parents and was an extremely violent and manipulative teenager in juvy - feel uncomfortable whenever she looked at him.

So, that and financial troubles aside, his ma turned out to be a pretty big fan of the same form of discipline her own parents had used with her, being the violent kind, and a day where Aramis had been beaten so badly that he limped on his way to and while he went around his school had him in foster care at the age of 9.

After 2 transfers due to foster parents quitting and being hit by a truck respectively, he was 11 and in the care of Eloise Badeaux, who sexually abused him until, aged 12, he stabbed her with a pencil and was brought into the same juvenile detention facility his ma had been in. 

It was around this point that he was noticed by his paternal aunt, Joanna Baudelaire, who was working for French Intelligence services at the time and decided he would be a brilliant fit for some infiltration she was trying to find a way to do. One transfer to another juvy that didn't actually exist later and he was being trained under her watchful eyes in acting, hand-to-hand combat, general fitness, basic firearms use and all the other jolly things he'd need to be a child spy with no clue that he was working under his aunt.

His first operation was getting into a relatively small gang, finding out all the names and places where they stored money and drugs, and reporting all of that information to Joanna. They were all imprisoned shortly after Joanna handed the information to the police. This mission was mostly a test.

Next was infiltrating a splinter group of the IRA seeking to restart the Troubles with a series of bombings. His mission was to use their activeness to find the locations of as many old IRA weapons caches as possible so France could have more unregistered weapons, which he would've failed at if one of the splinter group's survivors hadn't been identified, tracked down to their home, kidnapped and interrogated.

But he DID use their explosives to blow up their headquarters - an old manor, get chased in the woods by 10 people split in teams of 2, killed both the members of one of those teams when they found him at the cost of his favourite eye and was even still chased around a small town at 5:30 am. He survived this by using the sleeve of the one who'd slashed his eye as a bandage, breaking into a pharmacy for the medical supplies to attend to his eye, breaking into the corner-shop next door for shades and water, breaking into the new H&M the door after that for a change of clothes, and finally breaking into a barbershop the next door over and applying crap-loads of black hair dye to his hair after giving himself a terrible haircut.

After this, he started being used more in missions that involved killing rather than just gathering information, where he became an incredible marksman with sniper rifles and pistols. Among these was the one where he met Inyoni.

When he was 14, he was part of a mission to kill an Egyptian politician advocating for war between Egypt and Sudan+Ethiopia. This politician had hired the Red Dogs Mercenary Company, which Inyoni was a 17-year-old member of and was the progenitor of both the Black Dogs and Brothel Dogs mercenary companies, and as a result a previously calculated mission to ensure on man's death turned into a bloody skirmish.

Aramis and Inyoni met in close quarters with a lazy cat lazily watching them, each on their way to the target, and fought. Each quickly disarmed the other and several injuries later Inyoni had Aramis pinned face-down and was reaching for a knife to kill him with when he got his arm free and reached out for something more valuable: the cat. He quickly grabbed it by the scruff of its neck and stuffed it in Inyoni's face, where it stuck and scratched mercilessly while Inyoni tried to tear it off, allowing Aramis to take the knife and run to the target and kill him with a knife to the back of the neck. The effects this had on Inyoni were far more significant than those on Aramis and can be found when her file is made.

When he was 15, the military intelligence services of the core EU member states merged, just like their militaries, which opened up an even wider variety of agents to work alongside and nations to serve the interests of with his operations.

When he was 16, it was decided he'd blend in well enough under the guise of being 18 and he was sent to the Antarctic for a secret war over uranium deposits in the Antarctic that had been going on since 2024 (it's 2026 at this point), where he continued to jump from EU unit to EU unit wherever his skills were deemed to be the most needed. This is the phase of his backstory where he killed the most people by far.

Aged 18, the Antarctic war was put on pause due to the arrival of the Goners in South Africa and all the Antarctic military forces were transferred to the Great Encirclement, in which hundreds of millions of soldiers from militaries across the world encircled the area the aliens were present in for abut 2 months before the aliens looked up from treating their wounded, setting up camp and infighting, said "oh we should probably deal with that" and more or less effortlessly crushed the forces encircling them. Aramis was classed as a member of the most recent squadron he'd been serving as a member of and among 5 survivors of the formerly 30-strong squad.

He and all but 1 of the other survivors joined the South African Volunteer Army against the Goners, despite orders from EU higher-ups to get outta Africa because the Goners claimed they only wanted Africa and non-African nations didn't wanna risk upsetting the Goners by their surviving soldiers continuing to fight the Goners after their militaries had been so thoroughly wrecked by the Goners in just a few days.

He received the same education a normal kid would've under French Intelligence in the interests of him not being outed as an odd one with a simple "x + 2 = 7 what is x?", alongside learning hand-to-hand combat, basic ability to use most modern weapon subsets, mastery of pistols and sniper rifles, knife combat and most importantly brilliant acting skills.

Employment

Child spy -> child spy + military special operations -> teenage special operations soldier disguised as somewhat underdeveloped adult -> normal soldier under the command of one of the South African military's best commanders.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Prevented a lot of deaths and caused a lot of others, could get an Oscars in acting if he really wanted.

At story beginning, he's just getting tf away from being a spy, finally following through on the seeds of defiance he had from his spying days and seeing the Goner claim that they only want Africa for the obvious lie that it is.

Despite training in knife and hand to hand combat, his lack of depth perception and a large chunk of his field of vision being missing means anyone else with good hand-to-hand skills can wipe the floor with him in a fist or knife fight.

Likes: reading, movies, strategy, cats, dogs, wires, spicy food, the times where there's no need for him to be acting in any way, natural places especially forests and caves, climbing, parkour despite him having to take time between jumps to figure out distances, chilling out, learning things that aren't useful but he finds interesting, the Eiffel Tower
