The Sovereign Kingdom of New Terra

The Sovereign Kingdom of New Terra is a rather new power, existing only in the aftermath of the Federation's civil war, but it is powerful nonetheless. While it does not have the technology of the Tallon Empire, the numbers of the Terran Federation, or the efficiency of Isollis, it has determination, tradition, and experience. For over a century, it has kept true to the ideals upon which it was founded, and the lineage of its nobility has been kept pure of outside influence and mutation though a mix of arranged marriage and genetic engineering. Its kings and queens have, since the kingdom's founding, been leading crusades against alien and human alike, seeking to encompass all the galaxy under ‘pure' human rule, though in their case this takes the form of a militaristic police state with near-religious devotion to their leaders and their xenophobic ideals and policies.   Descended from the failed revolution in the Terran Federation, the Kingdom of New Terra is ruthlessly dedicated to securing humanity’s future, both by guiding it to success, and by wiping out anything that would threaten it, be it alien, A.I., or even Augmented by some definitions. (It is a strong point of contention both within the Kingdom of New Terra and the Tallon Empire whether or not the Augmented count as human.) One of its main goals is a centralized government, but their transportation and communication technology is no better than that of the Federation, forcing them to uphold a system of feudalism and slowing its expansion. In recent years, however, this feudalism has been waning and the hierarchy has become more strict, the offices of King and Grand Marshall have become more important, and unified crusades have become ever more common and powerful.   The Kingdom maintains a strong tradition of purity among its nobility, using genetic engineering to prevent birth defects and other harmful mutations, and preventing commoners from marrying into the nobility unless granted a title themselves, an honour that would never be bestowed upon a mutant. This ideal extends beyond keeping their noble bloodlines pure, however: Mutants, such as those born with birth defects, are either killed or forced away from society and either put into labour camps or conscripted into the military for life. Aliens, sentient A.I., and the Imperial Augmented are all ruthlessly destroyed, or in the case of the Aliens, often put into the same labour camps as the mutants and criminals. Purity of thought is also maintained, as traitors, dissidents, and enemies who resist occupation are declared criminals, and are, as should not be a surprise by now, conscripted or forced into labour camps.   The Kingdom’s society is extremely authoritarian and devoted to the military, with a state of permanent martial law in effect and commonplace permanent conscription of criminals and other undesirables, as well as levies of commoners when deemed necessary (or at least practical) by the local lord. The military of New Terra receives more than three quarters of the total GDP in funding, and most of the nobility is directly involved as generals and often as frontline warriors as well, making the state easily classified as a military dictatorship. Not only does the state command a powerful and devoted military, but there are many semi-independent militant orders and vassal states that serve almost exclusively to contribute military power and participate in crusades.   All of this and the Kingdom's driving belief that only humans deserve control and that anyone who opposes them opposes humanity work to ensure the Kingdom has no allies outside of its vassal states and militant orders, as they declare war on any who do not support them, and every other major faction is philosophically opposed to most if not all of their core beliefs. This does not mean they are alone, however. Support among the Terran fringeworlds for their beliefs is still somewhat strong, and they have been able to carve out dozens of vassal states to support them. In addition, their practice of frequently capturing and conscripting enemies en masse means they are never short of recruits no matter how many men they lose.   In all regards, they are a powerful faction. They are not the most advanced, the most numerous, or the most resourceful, but they have the strength and determination to compete. However, they are also in a very dangerous situation and are very reckless and aggressive. It is hard to predict what will happen to them or whether or not they will be successful, but they will make their mark on the Galaxy, and the next few years will determine what sort of impact they will have. Whatever the case, whatever they do, they will do with force. If they achieve peace, it shall be by the sword, and if they die, then they shall die fighting.

Structure

The Sovereign Kingdom of New Terra is a Feudal Constitutional Non-Parliamentary Monarchy.   It once had a parliament, but as both nobles and the monarch sought ever greater power, it was weakened and eventually dissolved entirely. The monarch is now the highest authority in the nation, with delegation to various nobles that serve as advisors, generals, and local government. All children of a noble are themselves nobles, but lands and titles are all passed to the oldest living child. In addition, the King may grant nobility to those born commoners, most commonly through knighthood.

Public Agenda

New Terran is an agressive and militarist state, and is devoted to ensuring that humanity survives to rule the galaxy by any means. To this end, they consider it necessary that inhuman intelligence is destroyed, and humans are all placed under the rule of a single strong ruler, with freedom and happiness secondary concerns at best.

Assets

They hold approximately a quarter of a million worlds, with a total population of over 250 trillion.

History

The Kingdom of New Terra traces its origins back to the Federation's civil war from 2,441 to 2,462, when revolutionary forces attempted to reform the Federation into a centralized Republic, unhappy with the lack of support to the Fringeworlds and the growing influence aliens had on Federal society. After three bloody decades of war, the revolutionaries were defeated and the Federal government began to rebuild, but many revolutionaries remained separate from the Federation, creating their own government in hiding. Little came of it for a few years, but in 2,468, an extremist political movement within the nation now known as the ‘New Terran Republic’ declared that a Republican government was not enough to keep humanity on the right track, and that aliens should not just be forced out of human society, but purged entirely. They were able to easily play off of the people's fear and resentment, and installed one of their leaders as monarch, reforming the old republic into a nobility and establishing a set of laws designed to ensure the purity of the nobility’s bloodlines and of the Kingdom's society in general.   Now the Sovereign Kingdom of New Terra, they began attacking various alien groups and purging any alien life deemed likely to become spacefaring or that already was. They have been avoiding conflict with the Federation and the Empire, seeking instead to rebuild and gather their strength. They, following their defeat at the initial siege of Terra during the Civil War, had always been weaker than the Federation, and had been very cautious so as to avoid their wrath, which while slow, would be almost guaranteed to have destroyed them. This lead, predictably, to slow expansion, as they had no allies and little nearby unclaimed territory.   However, their new king Alaric III, while young, is ambitious and opportunistic. Anticipating a war that will spread across the entire galaxy, he has chosen to preemptively attack the Federation, hoping to claim victory while all other parties are busy fighting amongst each-other. He has claimed that Terra rightfully belongs to him and that the galaxy is humanity’s birthright alone, and that he shall crusade to drive all aliens and other inhuman intelligences to extinction. It is as of yet unclear how much of this, if any, he will achieve, but he has already proven to be a strong leader, a mighty warrior, and a capable general. His biggest challenge is now uniting the various lords and generals and convincing them to support the kingdom above their own agendas.

Demography and Population

New Terra is composed exclusively of humans. Aliens and Augmented, when not simply killed, are sterilized and enslaved, leading short and harsh lives before dying of exhaustion and malnutrition.
