Rakemen

A group of mercenaries which was founded by former peasant rakers who spent long days gathering hay and breaking their backs, they have since switched to breaking others' backs as a successful mercenary guild operating in Herkenfel, and Carolan as a whole. Autonomous parties of the Rakemen have since also been seen operating in Wendia, Rúne and Fressia,
The myth surrounding their origins traces them back to the village of Grosbach in the island of Ingsel in the year 1328 where a cousin duo of Brenn of the Scythe and Alton have saved the village from a hostile ogre using simple farm tools as weapons. After being funded by the mayor of Grosbach, the duo enlisted a number of young lads from around the area and established themselves in the city of Herkenfel in the following months, mainly thanks to the newly found fame and patronage.
Their first professional contractor was Algie von Rechtsstaffer, a wealthy merchant and deputy-head of the Merchants Guild of Herkenfel. The contract involved the besiegement of the wooden fortress of Grifbeck upon the Old Stump, which a pirate gang had been using to raid trading vessels. However, this first contract of the Rakemen ended up surprising everyone, and the events which occurred remained in the minds of the locals fort years to come...
