Cos Season Calendar

Calendar of the Seasons in Cos

In the world of Cos, there are 8 seasons each divided into 3 different fortnights making each season 42 days long. While every season is not exactly the same every year with weather and climate it is pretty consistent. Season also depends on location in the world. Closer to the center of the world Solset and Summer are longer and Lunam and Winter are extremely short to non-existent. Farther away from the center of the world season's become more balanced eventually flipping to long Lunams and winters and short Solsets and Summer. The main force of change for seasons in the world of Cos is the transit realms getting closer and farther to Cos. As Forlight gets closer it forces summer and brings Foruna. When Everdark approaches winter comes and eventually Everen. The shifting of the two planes coming closer to the material world changes the magic, weather, and even environment mapping the years in Cos.   Foruna - considered the first season by some cultures, the middle of the season marks the new year. Foruna begins as Forlight is closer to Cos affecting everything about it. Light and holy magic are much more powerful while dark and unholy magic is much weaker. Foruna's temperature is almost always a perfect warm feeling. It is rarely too hot, even in warm climates, it brings a light breeze and lifts moods of all. It only rains a few times in this season which helps with crops as it is their main growing season, the magic in the air helps bring life to them. Strange natural effects happen in the world during Foruna, sightings of portals to Forlight are much more common than usual, Angels and other divine beings have increased sightings. Trees in forests burn with magical fire but do not actually get destroyed. Forests and fields are filled with light fairies during night and day. The sun usually has a rainbow aura surrounding it during the day creating a beautiful sky.   Solset - an extreme summer. Imagine summer, but amplified. Extremely Hot, depending on climate is extremely dry or extremely humid. Solset is like the world's hangover from Foruna. Flash storms are more common heat waves take over, in warmer climates conditions can become deadly. This is the only season in some colder climates that might melt snow and ice. Besides the temperature change environment shifts slightly, the magic of Foruna is balanced back to normal, but the sun looks much bigger and burns bright, days last very long in some locations night is only a few hours long. The last fortnight of Solset usually begins to drop back to a summer feeling preparing for Autumn.   Autumn - a beautiful season cooling down in temperature and brings change to the leaves. Trees change to beautiful colors of yellow, red, and orange. Crops are ready to be harvested and many harvest festivals are held in this season for a lot of cultures. Although the Otherworld is not closer in this season the Feyfolk do love Autumn and are more common to be seen during this time. As the season begins to end temperatures begin to get much colder and all the leaves have usually fallen off the trees preparing for winter.   Winter - trees have lost all leaves at this point and snow begins to fall. A cold dead season, but also peaceful and beautiful. Winter storms are usually light and pleasant. Temperature can fall to a deadly temperature but usually, it is just a regular cold, heavier clothes are needed in temperate climates and especially in cold climates. Most crops do not grow in this season, although some northern cultures do have a few crops to last them through the next couple of seasons. Festivals of winter sprites and religion are usually held during winter to prepare for the incoming seasons.   Everen - also called the long dark or frozen hell. Climates that experience this to full force are usually uninhabited by any creature. Nights are long and sometimes the entire day. Unholy and dark magic are strong making holy and light weak. Blizzards cover the land and creatures from the Everdark often walk Cos during the long nights. Prayers are not heard during this season. Luckily the closer to the center of Cos the less extreme this season is. During these long nights, the moon is almost always gone, making the world much darker. No crops can be grown in this season and if any are not harvested they get infected with the blight called rot making the air smell horrible. It is dangerously cold fire is needed for survival, going outside is deadly. In some cultures halfway through Everen is considered the new year because they survived the worst of the year and can celebrate.   Lunam - Cos almost has an audible sigh of relief this month. While it is still not pleasant it is no Everen. Lunam is a dark and cool month, the temperature is enough to keep snow and ice on the ground, but nothing too deadly. Lunam has a full moon almost the entire season, sometimes it burns a bright red making the middle of the night seem like a red-tinted day. The stars dance more powerful than any other time of the year at night. Sadly it is not all peaceful, Blizzards are still extreme and as the season comes to an end hurricanes and storms are powerful and common. The chaos sweeps the debris of Everen away for the incoming new year.   Spring - life remerges in the world during this season. Lots of rain and cool temperatures making it wet, but necessary for the new budding plants and trees. Towards the end of Spring, the air is pleasant and warm, flowers and trees bloom beautifully throughout the world. Farmers will plant most crops at the end of the season so it is a busy time. After a while of survival, it seems the world is no longer on pause. Nights and days become normal length again, festivals of love and flowers are usually held around this time of the year.   Summer - a season of heat and agriculture. Farms are in full swing taking care of crops and animals. Summers are hot and humid, but not to a deadly degree. Trees have all of their leaves again and the grass is no longer dead. The work of spring is over and the world looks alive again. Storms and tornados are the most common during this month. Water festivals take place and tropical climates hold dances and parties during this season. In warmer climates summers can become dangerous, but usually, do not and just bring dry weather.
