demon-owned Rank/Title in Corvayn | World Anvil

demon-owned

A near pejorative term for warlocks. It's commonly believed that all pacts warlocks make are with demons. Although not necessarily evil, the association with such chaotic beings leads to an understandable uneasiness and discrimination against these spell casters.

History

The etiology of the term is hard to trace but second age texts use the phrase less as a pejorative and more as a means to an end. Power seems to be more important than how it was acquired. Second age scholars seem to understand and respect that not all pacts are made with demonic or evil beings as well.

Cultural Significance

Agrium is the only nation that has used it in any legal or institutionalized way. Even then, it has only been seen in propaganda distributed to the common masses at the beginning of this third epoch of Corvayn. More typically, it is used as a quickhand for the illiterate and ignorant to demonstrate they don't enjoy the presence of a warlock.
