Nightmare

A dark horselike fae, also known as a Helhors

ANATOMY & MORPHOLOGY

Nightmares appear to be large horses with either manes, tails, and hooves of flame or fully engulfed in flame. They have been known to accept riders, only to drag them off to their deaths.

PERCEPTION & SENSORY / EXTRASENSORY CAPABILITIES

Nightmares seem to have the uncanny knack of knowing exactly when someone is ready for death. This is the reason they are feared by most out in the "real world".

GROWTH RATE & STAGES

Nightmares grow and mature quickly. By the time they are two years of age they are capable of breeding. Most young stallions choose to leave the herd to so their wild oats amongst the horses of man. This does not create more Nightmares, but it does infect the young with a mean streak.

ECOLOGY & HABITAT

Nightmares prefer to live in swamps and near volcanoes. This is because they desire the heat of fire. When in a swamp they have a habit of setting the swamp gas aflame.

SOCIAL STRUCTURE

The social structure they follow is that of a herd mentality; with the dominant stallion driving off any and all rivals. That is if he hasn't just killed them outright. A challenger for the position, must kill his rival for the dominant stallion will not submit.

EXCEPTIONAL CAPABILITIES

These fae have the ability to fly. They can also choose whether or not their fire burns any who touch them.

TABOOS

It is considered ill-mannered to aproach and touch one of the Helhors' with them first acknowleding you with a nod of their head; to do so is certain death.

MYTHS AND LEGENDS

There have been stories told of a midnight black coach pulled by a team of six Nightmares that answers the Baensidhe's call. Coming to collect the deceased's soul at the moment of their passing. Whether this is true or not is yet to be proven since none living can verify it.

BIOLOGICAL TRAITS

These Fae look a lot like horses.

AVERAGE HEIGHT

Nightmares stand fifteen to seventeen hands high at the shoulder.

AVERAGE WEIGHT

Their average weight is between fifty-nine and one hundred fifty-seven stone, or three hundred eighty to one thousand kilograms

INTERSPECIES RELATIONS

Nightmare stallions don't care who or what they breed with; if it can be mounted they will.   The mares on the other hand are a little more particular, and will usually choose a mate from other species they know are going to die and so wish to have a little fun. They seem to get a perverse pleasure out of bearing the child of someone who died while propegating.
