Land Ownership as a concept

The idea of owning a piece of land is a human idea and a very old one, though it is not in the same way as our traditional western concept. A human cannot purchase land, though they can call the land theirs especially relevant to kingdoms and such. Humans are on the whole only semisedentary. The land is in most cases wild and teeming with fairies and spots like the corrupted with ancient magic. It is chaotic and unwelcoming to humans in a lot of cases. For humans, owning the land comes from acknowledging that they are sharing this land with everything else in nature. An agreement that if others want to come and live nearby no one will stop them unless they also try to claim ownership. One man owns it, but everyone lives on it. Borders of kingdoms and countries are not strictly enforced, more general guidelines of where a ruler has power over.   The concept of harnessing nature, being the master of the land, is a new concept. It is also a fairy concept. Fairies can shape terrain and cause natural disatsters as well as bring prosperity and healing easily. In this new paradigm a fairy is not the arm of nature but a thing born by it to wield its power. This idea is growing in popularity as technology and special abilities are gaining power, influence on the land is becoming influence on the things that live there.   Humans exist at the will of nature, fairies are things of nature. So therefore humans exist at the will of fairies.
This is one of those concepts that make me really think. Like because Fairies are created by a certain part of nature and are immortal only as long as the creating thing is still around.   So like could a few hundred years of this idea start destroying the Fairies that popularized it?
