Town of Coldstone Point

Capital of Forsaken Souls

Coldstone Point was a large town (or a small city) in western Montana, USA near the border of Idaho. Located within a valley in the Rocky Mountains, it was once a thriving community that suffered a terrible fate, followed by its utter destruction in 1971, which oddly went unnoticed by most of America.   After its destruction, Coldstone Point would be seperated from the world, an expanse of land quarantined around it by the US Government. Those who view Coldstone Point now will only see the dried out "Lake Farland" that sat at its core, a large church, a few burnt out buildings, and the remains of a burnt down, demolished town covered by time.   But to those that Coldstone Point calls to, a new place awaits them... Through a treacherous drive through fog, simply getting lost on a backroad, or sometimes just waking up there, you will find yourself in the reanimated corpse of a town that can only be described as Hell. The buildings that once teemed with life now sit abandoned, vandalized, and empty. Denizens survive in camps as they scavange and defend themselves from the horrors within. Religious zealots roam the town in quiet, cautious, but possibly hostile expeditionary teams.   But the humans who inhabit this place are the least of your troubles compared to those that may have once been human. Nobody knows why, but a horrible force refuses to let the town die, as spirits roam illusively, demonic entities prey upon the weak-minded, and physical beings look to feast on flesh, and fear. Terrible powers are at work in the town of Coldstone Point, as reality itself is twisted into a dark mirror of itself.   All roads lead to Coldstone Point, and no roads lead out.

Government

Anarchy. There is no real governing body, however the Church of Salvation can be considered a form of power. Coldstone Point's true governing force is unknown, as the town itself is deemed to be of some form of intelligence.

Defences

Due to the inherent state of Coldstone Point, it does not really exist to the majority of Earth's population. Unless chosen through unknown means, it remains unseen to those who try to view it from afar. Those who try to enter where Coldstone Point once stood will find the path icy, with low visibility, and treacherous. The only remaining future of Coldstone Point for those that are not chosen to see it is the dried out lake, occasional piles of charred rubble, a few standing buildings, the remains of the burnt down forest, and a standing, run-down church which has been vandalised and often explored for its "haunted" status.   These defences prove sufficient, as anyone not chosen to enter Coldstone Point will find it impossible to do so.

Industry & Trade

Coldstone Point does not provide any trade to any external location, as it is wholly impossible to do so in its state. When operational however, Coldstone Point provided a large supply of Iron, Coal, and Gold. It also provided a small supply of oil. This stock was also used in the production of common furniture, appliances, and construction supply.   As for other industries, Coldstone Point served as a tourist attraction for its serene lake, expansive forest, stunning views, and a good resting location for those wishing to explore the mountain range.

Infrastructure

Coldstone Point's infrastructure is mostly dependent on the district that one is in. As you go through the districts, the following infrastructure is present:
  • Outer District - Small businesses, motels, parks, clinics, gas stations, diners, small apartment buildings, etc.
  • Provisions District - Large apartments, grocery stores, hospitals, lake piers, large restaurants, hotels, etc.
  • Forest District - Minimal infrastructure. Estates, shacks, hiking trails, reserve outposts, gas stations, single Oil processing station, etc.
  • Residential District - Suburban housing, neighborhood parks, schools, community centers, etc.
  • Religious District - Small zoning. Large church, shrines, cemeteries, underground construction.
  • Industrial District - Large Infrastructure. Factories, warehouses, mine entrance, city utilities, high density apartments, etc.
  • Dark District - Unknown Infrastructure. Massive cathedral, monolithic walls on perimeter, massive gate.
Coldstone Point also features a large sewer system encompassing the Outer, Provisions, Residential, and Industrial district. It also possesses a mineshaft that stretches under the Industrial District, and parts of the mountain range that Coldstone Point is in.

Guilds and Factions

Coldstone Point is currently inhabited by loose groups of humans known as Denizens. These denizens form encampments and smaller settlements in hopes of survival among the apartment buildings, community centers, and other large buildings suitable for survival. Each of these settlements are usually independent, though some have formed alliances or have even merged. However, none of these Denizen settlements are large enough to have any real impact.   Alongside the Denizens, the Church of Salvation serves as a religious organization centered in the Religious District. Save for those that wish to participate in their religion, they are mostly avoided by Denizens, as the Church holds a borderline hostile view towards unaffiliated Denizens.

History

While the exact date of its founding is unrecorded and lost to time, Coldstone Point was founded sometime in the mid-1800's in among the Rocky Mountains in western Montana, around the time that the mining industry began to truly expand throughout America. The settlement originally only had a few buildings, and a mineshaft owned by Coldstone Industries, a newly formed mining corporation. This location was optimal due to its large forest nearby, large lake providing a supply of fresh water, and its rich resources found within the mountain.   While not successful at first due to dangerous conditions for the transport of product, a road was eventually paved to Coldstone Point, which saw the town boom in population. Around the late 1940's, Coldstone Point had reached its peak population following the end of World War 2, and an influx of new families moving in to start a new life, and a flourishing tourist industry. This saw the naming of its resources. The lake which the Provisions District was eventually built around was named "Lake Farland" after Coldstone Industries' founder.   During the mid-1950's however, Coldstone Point began to suffer major economic troubles as their mining industry leaders were caught up in major lawsuits over abysmal worker conditions, and poor upholding of industry regulations. This, combined with rumors of dangerous occult activity and rises in crime (which were rumored to be linked with this occult activity), saw the rapid decline of the tourist industry, and the start of slow population decline as families either moved out due to lack of job, or concerns over the safety of their families.   The town would never recover from these downturns. In the late-1960's, crime took a tremendous spike in activity, specifically in violent and fatal acts. In a rather suspicious chain of events, the CEO of Coldstone Industries would reportedly go missing, followed by the bankruptcy and quick shutdown of Coldstone Industries as a whole, which was suffering from incredible debt due to its previous lawsuits. This resulted in city-wide riots due to the mass unemployment that took place and failure on the townships part to compensate the workers due to massive debt on the town's part.   With no form of true income, its major industries now defunct, Coldstone Point was on the verge of a massive exodus as the population began to leave in droves. Mysteriously however, before a downturn in population could be recorded, Coldstone Point suffered a catostrophic event that would see the immediate abandonment of the city, as well as its destruction.   At some point in the year 1971, Coldstone Point would be destroyed in a freak fire that started somewhere in the Industrial District. This fire eventually spread throughout the entire city, as well as the forest. Due to the underfunded, and undermanned fire department, and an oddly lacking external response from the US Government, Coldstone Point would burn to the ground.   This was followed by almost complete media silence. It is to be noted that Coldstone Point suffered from a surprising lack of media coverage during its time alive, always reported as a "rural backwoods town" by larger outlets, despite its larger size. When the town burned down in 1971, no records were written by the US Government covering the event, no news outlets covered the situation, Citizens who had left before its destruction were ignored by larger police stations and the media (deemed as crazy or not worth their time), and any institution capable of holding any records recorded the event as a "natural disaster that obliterated the small town of Coldstone Point."   As of the year 2007, Coldstone Point remains uninhabited. As of 1997, after initial reports of a gas leak from where the Industrial Zone once stood, the vast wilderness surrounding Coldstone Point has been quarantined by the US Government. Due to its low security, individuals have entered the area where Coldstone Point once stood, but only report an oddly cold, dried out lake, a vandalized church that is allegedly haunted by abandoned-building enthusiast (and often locked), a few burnt out frames of a building, the eroding roads (most demolished or covered by the dirt of time), and the occasional large pile of blackened rubble.   Explorers also report a sense of emptiness and quiet when entering this place.   Of course, if one were to be chosen by the town of Coldstone Point, they'd come across something vastly different should they turn up in this cursed town...

Architecture

The architecture of Coldstone Point is mostly 50's in design, with older buildings dating around the mid-40's and newer construction of the early 60's. The large church has been barely updated however, and still heralds back to its construction in the early 1900's, and is abnormal due to its large size, and the massive amount of land surrounding it that was owned by it.   The Dark District's architecture is noticeably odd. Its walls are made of (from the outside's perspective) a pale chalk-like stone brick that looks as if it dates back to more archaic designs. The Cathedral roof and tower that stands over the Dark District appears to be of Renaissance Era construction. It is important to remember however that the Dark District's did not exist before the town's destruction in 1971, and only appears to those who have been chosen to enter Coldstone Point, and actually have done so.

Geography

Coldstone Point is built within the Rocky Mountains. It sits within a valley, resting along the edge of a mountain. While the Outer and Provisions District is relatively flat (sitting near the bottom of the valley), the Residential, Forest, and Industrial District feature rolling hills, with the Industrial District beginning to ride up the mountain at its tail end. The Dark District is placed farther up North from the Industrial District. While its architecture shouldn't be supported among the mountain-side it should sit on, it is anomalously stable. It should be noted that the mountain itself is mostly not visible to those who have "successfully entered" Coldstone Point, as the snowy conditions block all visibility. Some have theorized that the Mountain does not exist in the realm of Coldstone Point.

Natural Resources

Coldstone Point contains:
  • Water from Lake Farland
  • Wood from the Forest District
  • Coal, Iron, and Gold from the mines.
  • Small amounts of oil from the Forest District.
These natural resources are no longer being harvested as of Coldstone Points destruction.
