Alir's Tavern

From the outside it looks intimate, inviting and pleasant. Clay bricks and hardwood pillars make up most of the building's outer structure.
It's near impossible to see through the curtained windows, but the sounds of dancing and singing from within can be felt outside.

Enter the tavern through the old, hardwood door, to be welcomed by excitement and overall happiness.

The bartender is a little preoccupied, but always manages to welcome patrons with a friendly nod.

It's as engaging inside as it is on the outside. Wooden beams support the upper floor and the light fixtures attached to them. The walls are decorated with college memorabilia, it's clear the owner, and probably the customers, are avid adherents to university ways.

The tavern itself is always packed. Students seem to be the primary clientele here, which often means great company. Several long tables are occupied by happy, excited groups of people, some are dancing, while others cheer them on with clapping and yelling. Smaller tables are also occupied by people who are indulging in great food and drink. Even most of the stools at the bar are occupied, though nobody seems to mind more company.

There are rumors about this tavern, supposedly it's famous for something and judging by the melodious tenor and backing lute, it must be the entertainment. Find a seat and prepare for what will undoubtedly be a great evening.

Alir's exists to serve the students of the nearby colleges, three in all, which make up the Empire's university district.

Once Alir's became popular with the students, it wasn't long before the thieves and ladies of the night became an indispensable part of its dubious charm.

Purpose / Function

Alir's is the meeting spot for Evangelie and Jasper's inital meeting in the novel Tavern Thief.

Alterations

Alir's is built atop a long forgotten ruin now home to a bathhouse, the bar, and a pavilion where customers can get away from the noise for a bit of peace and quiet. Over the years, Alir has put effort into upgrading the interior and now boasts an Inn on the second floor.

Architecture

Clay bricks and hardwood pillars make up most of the building's outer structure.

Defenses

Alir's needs no defenses outside the bar and lock on the main entrance, which is usually unlocked and unbarred due to the near constant influx of customers.

What an interesting and fun tavern. ^.^ There is a lot about the customers, but what about the staff? Who runs the place? What is their story and how did they get there?   Thanks for an clean, cut read!
