The Southern Isles

The Southern Isles - pretty much the last place any inhabitant of Cielon wants to end up around. They are a group of islands whos Cilium content has been mined too much by an ancient civilization, making the islands float way too low to The Cloud. Only a few animals and plants have managed to survive there, the temperatures standing at very, very cold thanks to no sun reaching them through the layers of fog from The Cloud.

Geography

The Southern Isles are pretty much the most southern still existing islands on most maps. They barely float above The Cloud, hidden from view, a hostile enviroment for any life on land. Not very mountainous, these are relatively flat islands, they would make for prime living locations if they weren't as close to The Cloud.

Ecosystem

The Death Isles are a hostile enviroment, barely any life can be found there. Some unique creatures seemed to have settled here, inhabitants of The Cloud that decided living on solid ground would be fun, but otherwise it's very barren land. The few plants that can live in the cold and dark lands are so specilaized they are barely recognizable.

History

The ruins on the islands tell a story of greed and the consequences uncontrolled greed has on everything around. 
This used to be a town of respectable size, many people made their home in the cold but beautiful area. They used the few natural ressources until they realized these islands have a huge amount of Cilium in their cores. Seeing a chance to make money - Cilium is worth quite a lot for magical blacksmiths - they started mines. No regulations were made, they thought there was enough for everyone to take whatever they wanted. 
They were wrong.
Slowly, barely noticable, the islands sunk, the Cilium that was keeping them in the air being carted away by the ton, until the day the bottom of the islands touched The Cloud. Not thinking anything of it - sometimes The Cloud rises a bit, it always retreats again - the people continued as they were doing, for another couple of years. Over the time, more and more people disappeared, some were rumored to be fallen into The Cloud, others snatched from the mines at The Underneath of the islands. More and more families moved away, they had enough money and weren't willing to risk their children, the islands weren't safe anymore. This kept going until the last family moved, the last miner died, the last person abandoned their life there, leaving the towns in ruins. 
This was about 100 years ago, now no-one visits anymore, the islands are now barely visible above The Cloud, the only reason anyone would end up here would be an accident.
