Djeke

Djeke is the jungle covered continent that lies at the south-east corner of the Scyllian Pool. Legend says it is the body of an deity who has fallen after an ancestral battle, and now sleeps peacefully in its new watery bed. The territory is under the careful watch of the Guardians, a legion of nature spirits who protect and preserve the life and equilibrium of the rainforest by any necessary means. Any great scale action done to the trees or creatures must have their consent, under the risk of violent retaliation. Only the littoral is not guarded, because they consider the sea an impure place, not belonging to Djeke like the forest.

Known for being gifted with elemental magic, Djekian humans are small and slim, with cooper skin, pitch-black straight hair and almond-shaped eyes. Due to the rigid rules imposed by the Guardians, they do not have much space to settle and so the population lives either scattered in small tribes all across the jungle or at the coastal city of Kisi'ã, the only region where Mankind has permition to freely manage land and large enough to sustain more then a couple hundred people.

Geography

Wild and untamed, the jungle covers the whole continent making passage inviable except for the man-made trails and paths. The climate is ever hot and moist, with constant rains. The terrain is basicaly flat, with small elevation and relief everywhere except the southeast cost, where a imponent mountain range called the Teeth makes the area by the sea extremely irregular. To the north of the continent lies the Scar, an enormous and deadly crater believed to be the place where the deity was hurt, and where not even the Guardians have autority. Flowing down the Teeth, the Heart is the main river of Djeke, a colossus that crosses the continent and where most streams of water disembogue, linking the whole land in it's calm current.

Fauna & Flora

It is no overstatement to say the continent of Djeke is to us Naturalists what an treasure room is to Adventurers. There is no place in the known world where life is found in such abundant manner. It is clear that our research, extense as it is, uncovered but a fraction of what the rainforest has to offer.

We have classified 853 plant species, 921 invertebrates, 286 fishs, 238 birds, 67 amphibians, 47 reptiles, 62 mammals and 12 monsters. Weirdly, no species of Mi'Zarafi has been found; presumaly they were decimated by the Guardians for disrupting the ecosystem.

In the six months we stayed at Kisi'ã, we had the opportunity to study ants, worms, bees and spiders, toads and frogs, macaws, hummingbirds, toucans and woodpeckers, tortoises, cuatis and monkeys, without even leaving the city. But the true wonders are deep inside the jungle and up the rivers: snakes, aquaquimeras, a huge variety of fish, little drakes, tanagers, owls, hawks, bushmasters, alligators, jaguars and much more dwells between the extremely fascinating and varied trees.

Such amount of knowledge made the separation of the volume in two parts a necessity, but it was for the good of the end result. With these tomes now available for the scholars, we hope to bring the land of Djeke the attention it deserves, and to incite others into discovering more of it's secrets.
