Stone Lung Disease
Causes
Stone Lung is caused by continuos exposure to fine but sharp-edged dusts, most often those resulting from mining operations. A healthy lung can compensate for some time until natural removal mechanisms get overwhelmed. Malnutrition and bad general health aid development of the disease.
Symptoms
Due to the nature of the disease, most symptoms can take years to manifest. They include cough, fatigue, pain and shortness of breath.
Treatment
All damage done by Stone Lung is permanent and cannot be reversed without invasive excisions or transplant, although treatments to alleviate symptoms are possible.
