The Crusade in Larian - Prologue

General Summary

Welcome, dear friends. It is I, Jethro, once again. 'Twas a long journey back towards Eiren. Recounting the tales of Dragonlords has made me tired of the Lysandan lands, and no doubt the tales Theodora tells you of Pung have kept you entertained. I think I desire a much more relaxing story this time, however.   Do you remember Gothai? Last time we visited such a place, we encountered the tales of Princess Durkavna and her rescuers, the Winter Tribunal, who saved the Kingdom of Icenglav from ruin. If you remember, there was a hero there named Charles, from the lands of Goth. Long have I desired to tell a story from his homeland. In my research, I believe I have found a suitable one. So, *ahem*, let me tell you the tales of days long ago, when the Goths were two nations.
'Twas the year 4282, the day of August 30th, during the reign of King Gabriel the Blind. Three adventurers offered to protect a weapon shipment on it's way toward the small town of Dert. Though a few forester guards were on the cart, they were also joined by three adventurers from all walks of life. I shall introduce them to you.
  • The first was Org Orgenson, a very large and imposing knight yet also fairly quiet who hailed from the town of Perre. Though he made be a brute, he has a good heart. He is Half-Orcish, born of an Orc father and human mother. Because of this background, he believes in fighting for the equality of monsters and men in the Gothan lands.
  • The second was Terra, a wood elf that hailed from the low forests of Gaelitia. Fair in face, in her hair, and in mind, she was skilled with the bow and in tracking. She once came to the lands of Larian with her family, but they long left, for she remained to find a knight whom she fell in love with, though she knows not his face and name.
  • The third was Thimbleswipe, an obnoxious and *ahem*, um, clever sprite who came from the mystical forests around in Larian. He seeks to cause mischief and trouble wherever his wings beat.
The adventurers were waylaid by local bandits under the leadership of a man named Pepe. Pepe and his forest bandits ordered the guards to give over the weapons or they would get hurt. The adventurous three, however, refused to give into their demands, and so a brawl broke out. Pepe and his cohorts were slain by the adventures. The party successfully took the weapons back to the town of Dert. There they met the sheriff off Dert, a Hector LeBlanc. He rewarded the party gold for their successful task.   Hector LeBlanc told the party that he was grateful they dealt with some of those bandits, who had been harassing the area recently. He sent a group of sellswords calling themselves the "Blackadder Company" to deal with them but they had done little to stop the problems. The adventurers decided to settle down for the day regardless. They came to the Fat Maiden Inn to rest. However, Thimbleswipe used this time to mess with Org. He placed one of his small daggers on the seat of Org and Org accidentally sat on it. Org went into a rage, and wanted to hurt Thimble. Yet the half-orc knight knew he should not give into his anger, and thus only threw Thimbleswipe in a nearby waste basket instead of hurting him.   After the small squabble, the party rested for the night, and in the next morning met with the sheriff again. LeBlanc told them that the Blackadder Company still did not arrive back. So the group decided to track them down. Terra used her elven perception to track down the location of the bandits. In the forest she found their rations and saw a strange glimmering on the ground. She realized they had crossed into fairy territory.   Going further, the party was stopped by some local sprites who pointed their bows at the party. Thimbleswipe bargained with his fellow sprites, asking them to put down the bows and told them that they came to deal with the bandits in the area. The sprites agreed, and let them pass. Then, the party ambushed the local bandits in their camp. The bandits were beaten by the party. From the bandits, they learned that they were looking for a horde of gold guarded by a local copper dragon named Pennydrix. According to rumor, Pennydrix had enough gold to "make a man retire 10-fold." It was from the foot tracks that Terra also realized that three people left the bandit camp previously.   The group tracked down the foot tracks, coming to a crevice within a mountain wall. They snuck into the caverns, and with whispers they heard a group of people talking. This appeared to be three other adventurers: a pale woman with a hood, a dragonborn woman in heavy armor, and a ginger man wearing a tall pink hat. They were standing over a wounded copper dragon wyrmling. Just then, the pale woman saw Thimbleswipe skulking around, and shot a sneak attack at him, taking him down.   The pale woman, revealing herself to be named Abigail, told the party that she would kill them for witnessing the scene. She revealed her terrible fangs, showing her dhampir heritage. The party they engaged in a battle. Terra took to healing Thimbleswipe with her elven magic, while Org Orgenson threw himself into the fray of the fight and engaged Zakra the Dragonborn and Robert the Warlock. He took down Robert. Thimbleswipe got his revenge against Abigail with a swift arrow to her forehead, killing her instantly. The rest of the Blackadder Company was taken down and bound. The adventurers then turned to the wounded Pennydrix, who thanked them for saving him.   The party then uncovered the truth about the dragon's loot: it was merely a horde of pennies, and Pennydrix was making a collection of pennies he found that was dropped on the road. The party was relieved, and let the wyrmling live, realizing he was harmless. However, Pennydrix promised he would later return a favor for them if called upon. The party then left the dragon's small lair and came back to Dert. The sheriff, seeing the evidence the party presented for the betrayal of the Blackadders working with the bandits, was astonished. He paid the party the Blackadder's promised gold and then some, and thanked them for enforcing law into the land.   Thus, the journey ended for these adventurers for that day. But what other adventures would take place for them? We would need to find out soon enough...
