Chapter 4 - The Mines of Bexton

General Summary

Uhtric and Aethelflaed made their way toward the mines of Bexton, coming across some ogres running away from the scene. Entering the mine, they regrouped with the other four. Uhtric made connections with the four adventurers once more, ensuring that his mission was the safety of the lands of Albion. First, the adventurers had to make it through the mine. Ardor sent his familiar Ash through the caves to scout the mission. There he spotted a small watery cavern filled with kobolds, and a door with treasure behind it. The adventurers went for the door and found some treasure.   Past that door the adventurers had Ash scout further ahead. They found a large horde of kobolds near a small body of water. The party approached carefully. They went down the stairs of the mine. There were about a dozen of the kobolds, some winged, some holding strange inventions, more dragonshields, and a sorcerer. The adventurers clashed, with Eogun and Uhtric taking the charge and carving through some of the creatures. Aethelflaed charged in on some winged kobolds. Meanwhile, John used his divine magic to distract the dragonshields, and Caoimhe used her druid magic to thin the horde. Ardor got into a magical fight with the kobold sorcerer, blasting fire magic at each other. (Oh, and Ardor summoned a modron funnily enough!)   The scuffle lasted about thirty seconds. Most of the kobolds died, but the sorcerer attempted to flee. Uhtric used his paladin magic to compel the kobold to duel. He'd regret that: the sorcerer blasted him with rays of fire, and sent Uhtric unconscious. The sorcerer escaped down the hallway, returning to their half-dragon master. The party decided to rest, making a fortification within the caves in order to regain their bearings and to see what the half-dragon would do. The half-dragon waited for them earnestly.   By the time the rest was over, the Half-Dragon would move on in with his sorcerers and dragonshields. Eogun had destroyed the bridge over the water earlier, so the half-dragon was forced to fly over the water, away from his soldiers. He blew his terrible poison breath, and began to cleave into the party with his battleaxe. The adventurers shot at the kobolds crossing the water. Ardor shot a spell at the half-dragon in the scuffle and killed it. Eogun and the others fought off the remaining kobolds. Once again, Ardor then confronted the sorcerer and had a magic duel, but ultimately he was wounded from a poison spell by the kobold. The kobolds were slain, and Coaimhe healed Ardor to prevent him from reincarnating due to his wild magic.   With the threat dealt with, the adventurers hurried into the half-dragon lair, and found gold, silver, gems, and other treasures among the horde, which they dispersed among themselves. With the treasure collected, and the deed done, the adventurers exited the mine, travelling back to Bexton to tell King Edmund of what they accomplished.
