Chapter 3 - Encounter of the Jade Wizards

General Summary

The party returned from the Cliffs of the Southern passage with the head of the leader hobgoblin, presented to the warlord Chao Huo-Dai. Chao thanked them for their bravery and paid the party promptly. However, he was also alerted that the hobgoblins were collaborating with a figure named "X", which worried the warlord. He told the party to wait a night so he could form a legal request from Tsino to request more soldiers to protect the village. So the party decided to go shopping in the meantime.
  • Kiu took the time to buy more ingredients so he could start cooking food for the party.
  • Bastion, Hu-Long, and Sorn Zavirr sold some of the recovered armors from the hobgoblins to make some easy money from a local smith.
  • Hu-Long preformed in the public square to get some money.
  • Ki-Ku bought some nice silk clothing from a merchant.
After they finishes their shopping, they went to the inn for the night. Hu-Long preformed there and the rest of the party ate and rested for the time being. However, when Ki-Ku went up to his inn room, he was halted by a strange wizard wearing jade clothing. The wizard, calling himself Shang Ri-Lau, told Ki-Ku that he requested the golden dragon back, for she was "stolen" by him. Ki-Ku refused, levitating the baby away from the wizard. Shang dispelled the levitation and began to threaten Ki-Ku, declaring him a thief and that all he wanted was the property of the "Jade Wizards" back.   Ki-Ku, however, would not allow the wizard to escape with the infant dragon. He tried to attack with a shatter spell, but the Jade Wizard dispelled it. Ki-Ku cried for the help of his allies. Before they could act, however, the Jade Wizard suddenly stopped time. He cast Globe of Invulnerability on himself and proceeded to grab the infant dragon away. When the time returned, the party hassled to stop the Jade Wizard, but their spells did little to nothing against his Globe of Invulnerability, and he resisted most of their attacks. He began to misty step down the hallway to avoid them. However, when Ki-Ku tried to cast a spell to stop him, it instigated a wild magic surge and turned everyone besides the wizard invisible.   The wizard ran for it, but was stopped by Hu-Long down the hallway, and Angska made an effort to blind the wizard from the stairs with the spell Fog Cloud. Bastion and Kiu had the idea to stop the wizard on the ground floor and thus jumped out the windows to get to the entrance. The infant also began to bite the wizard, forcing him to drop the Globe of Invulnerability. Eventually, Hu-Long injured the wizard, causing him to drop the baby dragon. The wizard, cornered, decided to teleport himself and the party against their will to the Citadel of the Jade Halls.   There, the party was confronted by a council of six other Jade Wizards. The head of the order, Go-Rai, was angered with the adventurers and accused them of stealing the infant from one of their members a long time ago. Go-Rai revealed that the baby dragon was the heiress to the Dragon Throne. Ki-Ku was found guilty, but the rest of the party accused the wizards of wrong-doing for trying to steal the infant from their hands. Naishi, the court diviner, spoke up in favor of the party, saying the Jade Wizards were being too harsh, but the other wizards told her to shut up.   However, Hu-Long with his word craft managed to convince the Jade Wizards of two points: first, that Ki-Ku no matter what was imprinted on the child and thus it would be hard to raise a dragon without him. The second is that the heiress of the dragon throne would be better off with them, considering they were more covert and less obvious than a council of Jade Wizards. The Jade Wizards discussed, and came to the conclusion that, yes, perhaps the party's experience would allow the dragon to grow quicker. In Naishi's words,
"Gold Dragons grow in wisdom, not in bodily form. It would take centuries for a dragon in hiding to grow to adult size, but it would be faster for a prolific one!"
Thus, the party managed to keep the infant. Then, Hu-Long ordered one last request: the wizards should pay reparations for the inn owner and the town of Han-Yi. The wizards agreed, hoping to keep the affair quiet and secret. The party was then given a free Scroll of Teleport if they ever were endangered and thus were teleported back by the Jade Wizards, given a "good riddance" from them. Then, the party rested for the night.   The next morning, they retrieved the writ from the Warlord Chao Huo-Dai, which requested more soldiers. Chao told the party to make haste, as they did not know when the next attack would happen. So the party travelled with their newly acquired horses and carriage and went down the road. Along the road they met a masked potion salesman in a cart, calling himself Ryu. They persuaded him for a better deal with the potions. Hu-Long read his mind to see if he was a trustworthy man, and deemed it so. After buying the potions, the party then departed, and made their way toward the city of Tsino in hopes of reaching the High Governor...
