Chapter 12 - Through Thick and Thin

General Summary

Getting into the Underdark, the Southern Stars would make it to a cliff side. They saw a floating Drow covered in an aura of translucence. As Slytoff attempted to check it, the translucence tried to attack him. The party would be attacked by two gelatinous cubes. Wulfric and Teq would be engulfed in some of them but escaped with their lives. Ultimately they would be slain. Slytoff found a small gooey lair and uncovered a shiny obsidian sword, which he tried to discover what it was. Through investigating, he would eventually figure out it was a +1 shortsword. Leaving the cliffside, the party had to hop across rocks and began missing their jumps, but through team work they made it. Slytoff investigated the ravine below, finding   Going further into the caverns, Riley started to read Elvish signs, telling them they were in Drow territory. Going into a small highway, the party snuck up on some Drow and attacked them. Tequila's Mace of Light blinded the Drow. Riley and Wulfric got into the thick of the squadron, Gilliam shot them from the distance. Teq used the spell Spirit Guardians to blast the elves in a powerful aura, killing many of them who were blinded by his light. Moving on, Riley saw more signs in Elven, showing a split in the road. One led to the ravine "Narrows" marked with an X, and the other led to a Drow highway. The players decided the way of the Narrows.   It was cramped in there. The party let Slytoff scout ahead due to his size, but he found no immediate danger, until he found two black tar pits. Tequila went ahead to investigate and at first thought it scared them. However, the pits, being sentient, tried to surround him. They were revealed as Black Puddings and started to consume the party's weapons and armor. Tequila was felled by a critical hit. However, Riley managed to destroy one black pudding and Wulfric and Slytoff the other. Tequila was thankfully stabilized. In turn, he began to use Mending to fix the party's corroded weapons and armor.   Gilliam chose to scout ahead the next time in the narrows, where they came across a stalagmite. Slytoff, being distrusting, fired a Fire Bolt at the rock formation. It was a wise choice; it turned out to be a hideous Roper! It tried to grab the party with it's tendrils, but they all dodged out of the way. Quick with his thinking, Riley called upon his eldritch powers and cast Bane upon the Roper. Though Slytoff would eventually be caught, the spell proved to be the literal bane of the Roper, as it failed to capture anyone else. Wulfric, using his greatsword, critically and mortally wounded the Roper by cutting it in half vertically. The party proved victorious!
