Chapter 1 - A Frightful Delivery

General Summary

In Silver Towne, four adventurers meet each other upon Adran's Road and enter the city, quickly becoming good friends. They arrived on May 8th, following an advertisement from the local bakery, called The Lazy Loafer. Arriving a day early, they enter the local inn, called The Silver Chalice, to find some good drink and meal. Immediately, Gilliam gets an idea: preform one of Slytoff's magic tricks as a performance for free food. They pester the bartender, who agrees to it. Gilliam plays his flute as an introductory piece, while Slytoff has Wulfric throw him across the room. Slytoff rolls, appeasing the crowd. His last trick is shocking Wulfric, but he does it too hard, leading Wulfric to go into cardiac arrest.   A cleric in the inn healed Wulfric, but the performance impressed the bartender and the patrons, so they got a free meal. Riley and Wulfric would get into a drinking contest. After a few gulps, Wulfric passed out, and a drunken Riley proved victorious. They would proceed to go to bed, with a drunken Wulfric snoring the rest of the night.   The next day (the 9th), the party met with Frederick Bakerson, looking to have the mercenaries guard his cart to protect a wedding cake for Lord Foswell. The party went with him down the road to Castle Foswell. There, they would be ambushed by the Knights of Black Dragon, seeking to destroy the cake for some odd reason. Though part of it was damage, the party slew the knights and hurried to the castle. They would be paid by Lord Foswell, who would offer them another job: protection of his daughter, Lady Joyce. Foswell suspected the knights wanted to sabotage the wedding between Lady Joyce and Crown Prince Adran.   Fearing she would be killed in her sleep, Lord Foswell gave the party an upfront payment and had them guard her during the night. In the middle of the night, the party was met by two thugs, pretending to be guards. Wulfric refused to move from the doorway, and, after some fighting, was struck down by one of the thugs. However, a defense by Riley, Slytoff, and Gilliam took down the thugs. Lady Joyce joined them too, taking a hidden rapier from her bed as a last defense. She would be injured, but otherwise not killed.   The party would discover it was more Knights of Black Dragon who tried to kill the Lady. Lord Foswell met with the party, and had his guards uncover that it was Sir Edward, a traitorous knight, who ordered the hit. He made a contract with the party to bring the head of Sir Edward to him. He pointed them to Sir Mallay, a disgraced paladin, to help them. However, he also offered them to join the wedding, and they agreed.   At the wedding, the party wasn't very welcomed. The guild masters did not look upon the party highly, especially after their obnoxious laughing. Riley would shove a cup of ale to a guild master named Gregory and tell him to join them. Speechless, the master just took the cup and stood there. The party had a good laugh, and enjoyed the wedding.

When they defeated the thugs, they found loot off of their bodies:

For their efforts in the jobs they had taken up:

  • 50 gold to disperse among themselves, for securing Lady Joyce's life.

Missions/Quests Completed

They completed two quests, both of which tied to a plot from the Knights of Black Dragon!

The Baker's Delivery

The party was paid by Frederick Bakerson to protect a wedding cake with their lives. They were to deliver it to Foswell Castle. They managed to secure most of it when they were assaulted by the Knights of Black Dragon, eager to sabotage the wedding.

Protecting the Lady

Thankfully, the party succeeded in saving Lady Joyce from a murder. Though they were at first overwhelmed by the thugs, they battled them off. A near attempt to kill Joyce was made by a thug with a crossbow, but it bounced off a breastplate she wore to bed to protect herself. She would wake up and try to hurt the thugs with a secret rapier, but she would be bruised.

She went to sleep in a breastplate!? That must have been terribly uncomfortable for her!

Yeah. She was tossing and turning. But she was safer.
