Ardor Pelota

Backstory and art by Tristan snaer, article by Jethro the Chronicler.

Journeyman of the Arcane Ardor Pelota

Ardor Pelota was a Dark Elf pyromancer who dwelled in the city of Mywick in the year 4350.

History

Early Life

Ardor the dark elf could never remember his infant life, now his original name if he even had one. That especially included the cruel choice his original parents had made. Discarded to the surface world as a baby because of his male genetics, his story should have ended there, abandoned and left to fade in mother nature's embrace. But, humanity proved to be much more merciful. He gained an entirely different life when a husband and a wife, both archaeologists, librarians, and light mages found him during one of their expeditions. Stricken with shock, Josefina and Raul braved the decision to take the baby with mysterious powers of fire into their family, knowing full well dark elves were not entirely accepted on the surface. But they took him anyway, and Ardor Pelota's life began.   In Ardor's up and coming years as a youth, that persecutive reality was not far off. He spent most of his days sheltered in his family's library, the Pelota Bibliotecha, due to a lack of colleagues his age willing to socialize. Even his older brother, Alvaro, an aspiring wizard, was appalled anytime Ardor was in his presence.   Only knowing a life on the surface world, Ardor never understood why he was never accepted. He didn't know if it was because of his skin, or because of the strange power inside of him. At first, he attributed the discrimination as some sort of misunderstanding that would be sorted out in time. But after so much of it, he realized there was no misunderstanding. This hatred was intended, and it struck deep. He suffered so much of it that in his later years, Ardor became numb to anymore that came his way. He put on a social shell to cover this heartbrokenness, and remained cooped up in his family's library.   Aurora and Raul noticed this and began to do everything they could to consul him. Ardor started reading from the almost endless books and tomes in the library during his spare time. But most importantly, they comforted him by teaching him the wizardry they knew in a way that would allow him to harness his power over fire. In the end, it was only amateur spells, something his elder brother had already mastered, but it was enough to make him believe in something.   Despite all the hatred he ever faced, he always looked up to his brother and wanted to be like him, so when Alvaro got accepted into the wizard's college, the Cemedri Magicus, he wanted to follow. As a means to prove himself, he even learned to conjure his own familiar spirit which took the odd form of a phoenix he named Ash. A phoenix who absolutely loathed Ardor. The process to get accepted as well was strenuous for Ardor and littered in bias, but thankfully he made a reliable friend with the archmage of the college, Odmund, and an evocation professor named Mauro Saldana. When he did finally get accepted, he thought his brother would look at him with amazement then. But he was wrong. Alvaro only continued to look at Ardor with contempt and disdain, and when the two confronted each other, this sibling tension snapped as Alvaro exchanged many words Ardor had never thought could escape his mouth.   Left in bitter aftertastes, Ardor learned his brother abruptly dropped out of the college not long after. He never saw Alvaro again as Ardor continued into his years at the college. Not even his mother or father in Miweck knew where he had gone, and it made Ardor sick with worry over leaving their relationship so low and broken. So, Ardor studied hard. He became one of the college's best evocation students. He continued to study hard in his family's library. He made sure his mannerisms and social etiquette were fit for the surface world. Because, he hoped to find where his brother had gone. And when Ardor did, he would do everything he could to mend their relationship.
