Wildwood (WILED-wud)

The Wildwood is a boreal forest located in the northern Aiecore valley in Fieren. Known to be infested by giant spiders, ettercaps, and worse aberrations, the forest attracts no shortage of fortune-seekers and adventurers who visit the nearby village of Fell Hollow for lodging.

Geography

Comprising an area of approximately ten square miles (25.9 square kilometers), the Wildwood is largely set in rolling, climbing hills that lead into the southern slopes of the Skytip Mountains. With multiple streams and springs running through the wood, the ground is highly-saturated. In some areas, wide clearings have grown into peat bogs.

Fauna & Flora

Blackberry, huckleberry, and similar undergrowth clog the forest floor along with sword ferns, mushrooms, and horsetails. The forest itself is predominantly pine, with scattered oak trees throughout.
Choked with cobwebs, the predominant fauna in the Wildwood are giant spiders and ettercaps that feast upon the other animals.

Natural Resources

The pine and oak wood that comprise the forest, along with the peat bogs, could prove lucrative for the nearby town of Fell Hollow, but the threat of the forest's denizens keeps any attempt to capitalize on the Wildwood at bay.

Tourism

Rumors of great treasures hidden in the depths of the forest attract mercenaries and adventurers, many of whom are never seen again. Their disappearance fuels even further speculation that the magical equipment they carried with them into the forest is added to whatever spoils might be claimed, drawing even more to the Wildwood.
