The Dunmaer Quake

In the millennia before the Nuaira appeared on Solia, the land east of what is now Falcrest was an expansive plain that extended to the eastern coast of Omath.   A great earthquake struck the continent, located beneath the eastern edge of Falcrest. The shock was so powerful that it ruptured the edge of the mantle of Solia. A mantle plume pushed upward, the steep walls of which formed escarpments that surrounded the north and western edge of the new plateau. Eventually, the magma receded and the heart of the plateau settled into hills and valleys in the shadow of the mountain ranges to the west and north, and the steep escarpment to the east. Despite the initial quake that rocked Omath, this area has been seismically quiescent, allowing erosion to wear at the mountains and valleys.   This region eventually became known as the Dunmaer Plateau.

Manifestation

The Dunmaer Quake occurred along a subduction zone between Falcrest and the Dunmaer Plateau. A massive event that displaced hundreds of millions of tons of rock and soil, the Dunmaer Quake has thus far been the strongest natural earthquake in Solia, though no written records of the event exist.

Localization

In the southern region of the Dunmaer Plateau, a massive valley formed due to erosion and the collapse of a magma chamber formed a large depression that would go on to form an inland sea that would later become known as the Halpond Sea.
