Positoxis

Positoxis is a condition that stems from the overuse of healing potions, extracts, and similar items. The positive energy contained in the physical form overwhelms the neurological system of the user, both creating an addiction to the effect and an overabundance of latent positive energy within the body. While the accumulated energy is not powerful enough to affect any form of healing, it amplifies the senses beyond control and causes uncontrollable muscle spasms. Visually, an individual affected by positoxis shows signs of bioluminescence around the eyes, ears, and mouth, between fingers and toes, as well as in surface-visible veins.   This visual condition has led to the creation of the derogatory term "Glow Worm" when referring to the afflicted.

Causes

Due to imperfections in the creation process, positoxis is caused by the buildup of latent positive energy that is not converted to healing when a potion, extract, or similar item is consumed. Accumulation is slow, and only becomes toxic after the consumption of excessive healing items.

Symptoms

An individual suffering from Positoxis finds their neurological system overwhelmed. They report feeling as though the air were sandpaper on their skin, that the softest sounds are overwhelming, that lights seem overly bright. They report being able to taste and more than ever, including the simple presence of material within arms' reach, with no ability to discern or disable the senses. Positoxis has also been known to cause the muscles within the body to spasm and twitch randomly and violently.   In rare cases, positoxis reduces or negates the efficacy of healing potions, extracts, and similar applications of healing magic, with the exception of direct healing prayers from a Divine Magic spellcaster.   The individual often reports a mild hallucinogenic state and euphoria, described similar to 'sitting in a cloud made of light'.

Treatment

Positoxis is treated through a combination of addressing the symptoms and cessation. While divine spellcasters are able to affect healing through the use of prayers, Positoxis is resistant to attempts to cure it outright.

Affected Groups

Positoxis shows most often in adventurers and mercenaries, who are more likely to use excessive healing items than the general population. Positoxis has also been observed in alchemists, herbalists, and potion makers who create healing items.
