Nuaira Birth Celebrations

Due to their longer lifespans, the Nuaira tend to celebrate the passage of time differently from their Human counterparts. Instead of celebrating the individual years, Nuaira celebrate milestone birth anniversaries, such as their Centennials, their Coming of Age, and their Quincentenary.

Components and tools

The Nuaira celebrate their birth with light, seeing it as a counter to the shadow that has grown in the Magocracy of Ezir and almost ended their species. The Centennial birth is often celebrated with candles and lanterns, even in settlements with Feylin or electric light, while larger celebrations see brilliant bonfires set that burn throughout the festival as a symbol of their inner light.

Participants

A Nuaira's first centennial is attended only by immediate family members. Their Coming of Age and journey to independence is celebrated by family and their social circle, and in smaller communities may be conducted in a communal festival manner, with all of the Nuaira who have reached that milestone being celebrated at once, rather than on a specific date.   Successive centennial celebrations tend to be smaller affairs, celebrated only by the Nuaira's closest friends and/or family members, while a Quincentenary is often celebrated by the community in a grand style that lasts for the better part of the summer season.

Observance

While some Nuaira may celebrate on the specific day of the birth anniversary, most tend to celebrate on Midsummer. This allows for the celebration to be commingled with Midsummer festivities, and will often take place over the course of several days or weeks, depending on the scale of the celebration. The older a Nuaira is, the longer their celebrations last.
