Chicago, Illinois

This is Chicago but not the Chicago you're probably thinking of. This is the Chicago of the future. In this time period Chicago is the 6th largest city in the futuristic world with a whopping 2000 square miles!! That's more than double the size of modern-day Tokyo! This size is rather shocking if you consider that 1700 of these square miles are considered "downtown city area" (in modern-day Chicago the downtown city area is only 48 squared miles). This Chicago has spilled out of Illinois into Indiana.   Now, enough about the size, we must move on to the culture. This city is best described as an "Urban Cyberpunk" kind of setting. It is made up of monstrous skyscrapers which are covered with polished screens, covered with vibrant colors. The streets, in general, are pretty gloomy and dingy which make those blinding LED screens very prominent and loud.   If you're on these streets you better know what your doing, because there is a fifty-fifty chance you're walking on some sketchy territory. Don't worry too much though, it's not super difficult to tell if you're in the proclaimed "shadow lands" just check your surroundings. If you see graffiti covered walls, smudgy or cracked building screens, dirty pavement, no robots, and/or some shady looking hot-dog carts you're gonna want to get out of there as soon as you can.   On the other hand there are the well kept streets, this is where "dreams come true". You've got mile long malls, bustling food carts full of anything you can imagine, friendly robots helping everywhere you look (everywhere), and not to mention the enormous population of 16 million people! And make sure not to forget that whoever controls and manages almost all technology in this city is completely unknown, although the rumors about this are rampant.   People of this city are very advanced and even the poorest of the poor have access to a whole lot of technology. Also, due to some genetic enhancements (which are being highly experimented) of this time there are two subspecies of humans whose enhanced DNA have successfully been able to be transferred to offspring: avians and arcanians. Avians were genetically altered to have lighter bone mass, faster-beating hearts, two sets of lungs, no appendixes, two sets of eyelids, (one is transparent while the other is a normal eyelid) and a matching set of bird wings and tail (will be the wings and tails of some sort of existing bird). Because of avians being made more common in these the modern buildings and doorways have been made larger to accommodate the wing sizes, take off pads are scattered around the city for take offs, and ,much more. Arcanians, however, are very different. They are exactly the same as regular humans but their appendixes have been re purposed to hold a special fluid to allow them to do magical performances. There are extremely monitored laws on this magic preventing many forms of this magic (which is usually learned) of being used. This topic is very controversial. Regular, non-genetically altered humans still exist but their numbers are dwindling.
