The Goner Palace

In 2028, Goners (3-4 foot tall lizard/velociraptor people) invaded Earth after crash-landing in South Africa. They failed.

Humanity went on to capture their entire empire. The palace of their emperor and the base of operations they had in South Africa have been repurposed into museums, with each having many replicas of the other's most important artefacts.

Purpose / Function

Showing Goner and Pre-Invasion Human history, as well as information about the Human-Goner Wars.

Alterations

A great many of the secret tunnels of the palace have been laid bare and open for visitors to know and see and be dumbfounded by how more of the volume of the palace consisted of secret rooms and tunnels than regular corridors and rooms. The traps in both have been removed for safety reasons.

Architecture

The base is very strange in that the structure itself is clearly militaristic, and yet is furbished on the inside with tonnes of artwork, mostly stolen human artwork, and creature comforts. Overall it is about the size of London when the other structures built to support it, or simply built by those seeking its protection, are taken into account.

Similarly, most of the palace is grand and filled with great works of art by the Goner race - of which there are many - and great indoor gardens and stadiums but the inner parts of the palace where Emperors would've spent most of their time are much more homely. The palace by far has more artefacts and art due to it being twice the size of France, not including that it has many floors and the structure goes high into the sky and deep into the ground.

History

The base isn't all that interesting. It got attacked once at the start in a failed attack by the humans, then again in a failed attack by the USA that was followed the next day by a successful attack by United Commonwealth. A few betrayals happened there among the Goners. Attempts to nuke it failed.

The palace is steeped in history. It was built in 53 CE and then constantly added to over the next few thousand years. Countless works of art depicting Goner history are present there.

Tourism

Pretty much everyone within less than 3 months of travel to and from either who can afford it have visited at least once, with others taking years to make the journey.
