Immortality

How things are for you when you get old can really depend in the CHG, particularly with how rich you are.

Research into this was stopped in 2028 (and under-funded up to that point) due to an alien invasion and, since then, comparatively few advancements were medical as more scientific resources were put into how to make bombs make bigger booms and guns do more pewpewing as every nation ever was under constant threat by either aliens, other human nations or a chance of civil war. Increasing closed mindedness (unsurprising when the aliens are also closed-minded and trying to kill you) led to research into anything considered abhorrent - with exception to cases where it could be used to kill things - being underfunded or banned. Human immortality in particular was feared for how it might cause technological stagnation that could allow aliens to get ahead and become capable of smashing humanity with better weaponry.

However, in the middle parts of the reign of the UHN, the upper class that had formed was like "bruh I don't wanna die" and many extremely rich individuals flung money into research into immortality, much of which had to be done by scratch. By the 3/4 of the UHN's reign, immortality had been achieved and it was not cheap - like, at all.

Thanks to this, only the richest richlings of all the rich get to live multiple centuries while everyone else just has a good chance of hitting the 100 mark.

A poem by my sponser, me:
