The Kingdom of Wuan, home of the living and dead

Excerpt from A Brief Guide to Necormancy "In the kingdom of Wuan, all dead or given over to mortuary priests, a clay mask hides the deceased face and they are used as servants to the kingdom. On the clay mask a servant is graded, one line means they are to be royal guard, two and they will join the army, three marks and they will be left to a vendor in a town for rentable use by the populace, four and they will be used as sentries and cannon fodder in battle, as a servant with 4 lines usually has little use left or is missing many limbs. Grading depends on many attributes but largely magical proficiency and body quality."
Ruled by its two Diarchs, the Kingdom of Wuan is a place of eb and flow, staunch traditions and ever changing policies. The peoples of Wuan are mostly peasant farmers, minor artisons or priests, but the extensive Administratum keeps all of these in line and accounted for.

Demography and Population

The nation of Wuan has vast tracts of scrub and prairie land, with many small villages spread far apart, populating great swathes of the country. These are populated by the Wen, they are peasent farmers and minor craftsman who make up the largest portion of the population. The Wen are ruled by the Wo, landowners, employers and master craftsman, it is the Wo's obligation to guide the Wen in their work, taking on apprentices, taxing them fairly, providing for them in times of trouble and leading them in times of war.   Above the Wo is the Wu, they are the nations advisors, scribes and nobility. A Wen or a Wo may become a Wu should the pass they national Administratum exams, however there are very few bursaries for such people.

Military

The Army

A Standing army is maintained at all times, with an extensive officer corps. This is not due to rank inflation but the unique make up of the army, extensive use of necrotic soldiers are used.

Regiments and composition

For your information, the regiments are as follows:
  • Several regiments of regular, trained goblins with spears
  • Twice as many units of archers
  • One or two heavy armoured, veteran regiments
  • The remaining is necrotic warriors, this number varies wildly but is never less than 10 full regiments

Officers

The officer core leads the necromantic elements, who remain in a passive state at the ready in 'tombs' around the nation. these facilities are extensive underground chambers to house the undead soldiers, who 'rest' until needed.

The Navy

Grand ships, manned by thousands of slaves with oars, and hundreds of soldiers, supported by a flotila of smaller vessels which use their speed and manouverability to harass enemy ships while the larger elements of their own navy arrive.

Foreign Relations

The natiaon of Wuan is largely isolationist, although this truly depends upon its Diarchs. The populace will eb and flow with thier will.   As under Diarch Chuluf and Mitigy the nation opened it's borders to many travelers and traders.   Although with the subsequent election of Rolf and Ticirius the borders were shut and all foriegners expelled under pain of death.

Agriculture & Industry

The extensive plains and prairie lands make for tough lands to farm, it is through the use of necromantic labour that this monumental effort is achieved. There are small iron deposits within Wuans borders, largely in annexed territories; alongside extensive tin and copper mines, again largely staffed by the undead who are controlled by a foreman.

Trade & Transport

Designated trade ports have been outlined by the Diarchs, however these have been known to change with regional preferences. Traders are only permitted to step foot on the land of Wuan during the early morning and evening, which results in them paying local companies to trade for them.   One trade practice is to leave a blanket on the dockside with an example good and a stone stating the number you intend to sell carved into it. Then local merchants will place their own stones in a basket provided infront, with the number they wish to purchase and at what price carved onto it. At evening the trader reviews their offers and places the ones they accept onto their blanket and the ones they dislike remain in the basket. From here the desired goods will be placed on the docks with an local official to ensure the exchange.
