Chasm

Chasm is a mysterious city that spans underneath the entirety of the Void desert. An air of madness surrounds this place, corrupting all that it encompasses, and the possible home and/or cause of the terrifying clockwork beasts. the only part of the city visible on the surface is the massive clocktower, which is rumored to command the very climate of the desert with its own madness. The great city of the pit was discovered during the Crippling war during the Calamity of Madness. When the clocktower emerged from the center of the desert, opening many passages to the unknown. Unleashing the many horrors stored in the cursed underbelly of the world, and causing innumerable causalities and confusion on all sides.   After the horrible war had ended all civilizations were left crippled. The warrior Auten were reduced to many small tribes. The shade retreated to the mountains to rebuild their society, crushed by the conflict. And Mankind returned to their kingdoms on the outskirts of the rim, their numbers now greater than the other races. But all declared the sunken city a cursed place, forbidden to all but those who wished to forgo their lives.   The great desert above the City is now inhabited by wandering Auten tribes, scattered Human foragers, terrible Clockworks, and the mechanical wildlife that remains.   This world is a post apocalyptic steampunk(ish) world. With a ruling empire of medieval humans, Tribal robot people, and reclusive mountain elves.
