Legend of the Yellow Dragon Kingdom

May it please your highness, this history is drawn from the Esereti legends, records kept by the Taurien of the far east and some of the Dwarven folk of Ilnelion.
-Lohoz, scholar of the Imperial College. "The Legend of the Yellow Dragon." Imperial year 722

The Dragon Blooded arose about 2687 T in the south east of what is now The Esereti lands. This person was said to have Dragon blood and wielded Dragon magics. He came with 5 companions who were called the Silver Dragons.

Bresson, later called the Dragon King, along with the Silver Dragons overthrew an evil Sorcerer in the kingdom called Tov. The Sorcerer used demons to keep the population in check. She was said to be a part demon crone with horns and an eye of fire. A huge demon she kept would eat children. Bresson slew the demon and with his companions destroyed the Sorceress. They then freed outlying towns under the Sorceress's control. They then expanded north and west. Each of the Silver Dragons assumed noble status and lands. They conquered Libalu, and Isadludi

Bresson married and had two children: Jalah and Dhazune. The elder, Jalah was the heir and married a Sidhe of a fae kingdom, Sorori. Dhazune was called the Red Dragon and was master of the armies. The two expanded the kingdom with a most notable defeat of the Necromancer of Ranan and her undead armies in 2748. Jalah's most loyal retainers were granted status as Copper Dragons. Dhazune's were the Bronze Dragons.

of Queen Jalah had two sons. Gen the Half Elven was the elder and succeeded Jalah to the throne in 2819. He later married a Meniad Fae of Sorori and fused the kingdoms in 2866, moving the capital to the new western part in the former fae lands. His brother Jomo became the Green Dragon, protector of the East. Gen was notoriously a philanderer and had 5 official children and at least another 5 bastards. Of the five official children three underwent Goblinization. His eldest son died in battles in the north and the second son, a Sidhe, assumed the throne. The other three children were daughters and became the Blue (Human), White (Goblin) and Black Dragons (Elf- Pooka). Gen was known to have had lovers of all genders and species. The Colors intermarried with some marriages with Metal houses. Likewise the Metals intermarried. The older Houses held status above the newer ones.

The second son had but one heir and that son was without children of his own but adopted a lesser vassal's bastard as his own. This daughter was crowned in 2984. The kingdom of Bresala rapidly fell into war as the greater Dragon lineages rejected the "pretender" and claimed the right to the throne. Full war followed in the spring of 2985. Only the White Dragons of the Great Houses supported the Yellow, with Silver, Copper, Tin and loyalists who were now called Golden Dragons ( it was widely cited that many were mercenaries. There was at least one unit of Minotaurs and Centaurs - but Taurien had not been part of the Kingdom since Jalah's days). In 3002 the Reds took the throne. The Yellow Queen was given internal exile and locked into a guarded castle with a young daughter. The eldest children, a son and daughter escaped. In 3006 the son returned with an army, now supported by Green and Blue. The eldest daughter led an assault that freed the Yellow Queen and they escaped to the northeast and rallied loyalist forces. The war lasted 3 years and ended with betrayals. Green turned on the eldest son of Yellow and killed him. A host lead by Black, with a large part Fae defeated the Yellow Queen's army and killed the eldest daughter. The queen and 2 daughters vanished. In a celebration held by the Red King in honor of the victory, Black turned on Red and killed the Red King, taking the capital with Green support. Black assumed the throne. Red and White immediately launched retaliation while Blue attempted to play both sides. The Black Dragons held the throne for 89 years before being replaced by White , who possessed as much Fae as Black. The White Dragons brought a wave of executions and attacks on enemies, including Blue which was called the White Death. This was blamed on Unseelie factions. Green ended the brutal White Dragon reign but another battle erupted over who would assume the throne and the capital was largely destroyed in skirmish battles by the various factions.

The kingdom was now shattered into lesser principalities as house fought house claiming right to the now fallen throne, raiding and seeking to conquer the other Great Houses. This weakened and diminished the great houses as they sought to wipe each other out. By 3300 they were mostly exterminated and depended heavily upon the lesser Metal Houses. The Metal Rebellion began with Gold claiming they possessed the descendants of Yellow, and establishing themselves as High Kings in the remains of the Capital. Other Metal Houses claimed rights and the last lines of Yellow and Greater Dragon house bloodlines as well, aided by wiping out any remaining Great House survivors. The Metal Dragons now claimed themselves independent kingdoms but continued warring with each other. The Kingdom of Bresala was no more, though the Golden held Bresa and claimed to be High Kings.

Winter of 3899 was especially harsh, with snows and ice until nearly the summer and the next several years brought plague and famine. And then came fleeing Titans from the fall of Damamila, and rifts bursting open with Yokai, demons, Sidereal fae monsters and other hazards pouring out of the lost and hidden valleys of the mountains. Raids of Deathlords from Damamila brought more death and suffering and destroyed the last of the southern kingdom. The centuries of war left the houses weak and divided, the plague and famines had reduced populations who had fled nearly empty cities to seek isolation from the sick and starving. The last vestiges were overrun and swept away with only a few holds and castles remaining to stand against the Shadow Period.

In the Shadow Period every warlord and bandit lord claimed a Metal Dragon ancestry, frequently backed by looted artifacts and regalia pillaged from tombs and ruins. It remained thus for nearly a thousand years before iron, steel and Hermetic magic allowed the races of the world to claw back against the darkness. A new group of Dragons arose claiming Great house ancestry by obscure cousins and lost survivors. No mortals know the truth.
