Eighth Character in Characters and their Adventures | World Anvil

Eighth

The seventh child

In a small town, a married couple of bakers were expecting their seventh baby. As they had a sense of humor, they decided to name their child Eighth.

Eighth's family

Parents

Eat good and rest regularly.
— Ma and Pa
His parents, a cheerful folk, are the owners of one of the bakeries from their town. They love all of their children and worry a lot about those who leave the town, even for a short while. Both Bruno and Cecilia are pretty old now. Bruno got skinnier as he aged, but his head is still full of shoulder-length curly white hair. His eyes still have the same spark whenever he sees his wife.
Cecilia on the other side was always skinny. There is still some brown in her hair and she still has the same beautiful smile that made Bruno fall in love with her.

First - The smith

Don't strike with your full strength, you need some precision and finesse.
— Mary
Eighth's oldest sister, Mary, works as a smith in the town. Her job is really exhausting and before Eighth's youngest brother was born, she usually went to bed as soon as she returned home. But when the two of them were small babies, she took care of both of them, helping their parents, and once the two of them grew a little, she played with them.   She has long blonde hair she braids. Thanks to her job, she is quite muscular.   Fifteen years ago she married a guard, one of Rob's friends, much to his disapproval (they are still on good terms, but he tested his friend for a while to check if he's worthy to be his sister's husband). She now has two children, a boy and a girl (Barry and Winnie) who she loves deeply.   She taught Eighth how to fix the armor and the basics of working the forge.

Second - The alchemist

Remember, unless you are fighting something that is already made out of flames, most of the creatures don't like to be suddenly set on fire.
— Tobias
Tobias, the oldest of the brothers, decided to devote his life to science and became a local alchemist. Most of the time he spends reading books and mixing various concoctions.   He started balding early in his life and now all that is left of his hair is his magnificent red beard.   Much to their parents' dismay, he never married and was never interested in finding somebody to love.   He taught Eighth how to create simple potions, and taught him the basics of chemistry.

Third - The town guard

Wait for an opening. If you rush, you'll only speed up your own death.
— Rob
Rob is the one who listens to the rules the most. That is one of the reasons why he became a town guard. The other one was that he wanted to be able to lawfully punch a guy he knew in childhood, who became the criminal as he grew.   Rob has short red hair.   He has been in a few difficult relationships, but he finally found a wife that loves him dearly.   He taught Eighth how to fight with various weapons.

Fourth - The adventurer

So again, if you want to seduce a dwarf girl...
— Ludwig
Since his childhood, Ludwig wanted to become an adventurer. As a teenager, with parents' permission, he joined a group of adventurers. He regularly writes letters and once in a while, between his adventures, he returns home.   He has blonde hair and a mustache.   Apparently, he falls in love with women in every city his party visits.   During his stays at the home, he taught Eighth everything about being an adventurer, from monsters, types of dungeons, traps, and gear used, how to fight, and the ways to seduce the elf girls (although Eighth was too young to really understand this part).

Fifth - The shoemaker

Treat your shoes right and they will do the same for you
— Shelly
Shelly, the most rebellious and vulgar of the siblings, is a shoemaker.   She has long, curly red hair.   According to some rumors she slept with a few guys and girls in her life. She doesn't deny it.   She taught Eighth the value of good shoes and how to take care of them.

Sixth - The baker

To move silently, you need to place your foot like this.
— Thomas
The youngest of Eighth's siblings, Thomas, is only two years older than him. He decided fairly quickly that he wants to take over their parents' bakery. Both of them would try to sneak out without being noticed by the rest of the family to play around in nearby woods.   Thomas is a plumpy man with short dark brown hair. He often falls asleep behind the counter, but lately, there's a girl that started showing up more often and talking a lot with him.

Fourth went missing

One day, the letters from Ludwig stopped coming. Two years have passed and no news about him reached his parents.
As they get older and older with each passing year, Eighth decided to find his brother (or his corpse) before they pass away.
With all of the knowledge his siblings passed on to him, he became an adventurer.

General body shape and features

During combat, he moves a lot, so his town guard brother taught him some endurance exercises.

Apparel and weapons

When going on an adventure, he wears a mix of metal cuirass with fur around the neck and leather armor. There are various straps and pouches attached to his chest, arms, and hips. On his bracers, at the wrists, there are two pieces of flint attached. By striking them on the metal parts of his armor, he can create sparks, which he then uses during the fights.
For the most time, he fights using a shield and a spear or a shortsword. During ranged combat, he mostly uses a short bow. He even uses some bolas.   Outside of adventures, he tends to wear a simple linen shirt and pants. In colder areas, he will also put on a vest made out of sheep leather.

Gear

Eighth loves to prepare in various ways and thanks to what his siblings taught him, he can create a lot of items that he uses in combat. Because of that, his pouches are often filled with some of those items:
  • Alcohol (to disinfect wounds or spray his enemies with to burn them)
  • Throwing daggers
  • Holy water
  • Caltrops
  • Oil

Personality

Eighth loves to learn new things and is cunning enough to use them later.
He loves to talk with the common folk and working people.
During festivities, he will be one of the first people to start dancing, grabbing strangers to come join him.

Combat tactics

Thanks to all of the things his siblings taught him and his determination to find his brother, Eighth learned to fight in many different ways. Some of them dirty.
He follows the teaching that only the one who survives the fight is the winner, so he will use any means necessary to survive as long as it won't endanger another innocent person.
He will burn, immobilize, kick and throw his enemies.

Religious views

Eighth is a believer of Lathander, god of the Morning.
Whenever he has enough time, he visits a church or prays at the shrine, but lately, his search for his brother takes almost all of his free time.
