Chanirith

Bit of a place holder for now. Current ideas for the world include having waves of aberrations swarm the surface of the world during summer. These aberrations were the first creations of the deities and were locked underground. These aberrations were then corrupted by the Old Gods and are being used to drown the surface in blood. Arcane magic was a "gift" from the old gods giving the humans, elves, halflings, and dwarves the abilitiy to call upon the basic tools that shape the universe. However, this gift doesn't come without a price: each mage has a mental trial that they undergo when they come of age. Those that come out of it have more control over their magic. those that fail submit to the old gods and find their bodies and minds warped into bloodthirsty aberrations that chaotically wield magic. Divine magic is the counter gift from the gods and does not come with these sorts of drawbacks, but also cannot perform the same tasks as arcane magic can.   Themes of this world include that nobody is uncorruptible, that evil is inside everyone and how we face it is what defines us, and redemption.
