Xaosanthia

A pounding at the the front door snaps the Simitirian woman out of her exhaustion enduced haze. She stands quickly from the chair she is resting in and rushes to the door, swining it wide. "Finally" she whimpers and pulls the Shaman into the humble home. Judging from the exhaustion on her face and the worry lines creasing her forehead, the Shaman knows exactly what he has been called here for. Pulling him down the hallway at an almost run, they enter the last door on the right and the Shaman is greeted by a scene he has been witness to all too many times. A young Simitirian boy, writhing and lashing out upon the bed, is screaming in agony. Arms, legs, and tail all fighting relentlessly against the four men attempting to hold the child down. He cannot be more than eleven years old. His eyes squeeze shut and his scream intensifies, and as they open again they are glowing a deep purple. The thrashing boy looks up at the man holding one of his feet and that man instantly collapses to the floor, foaming from the mouth. The boy screams again and his eyes change from purple to a verdant green. Wildflowers begin to grow from the walls, floors, and ceiling of the small room. Another scream, another change, this time to a warm orange, and fire begins to erupt from the palms of the young boys hands, scorching the walls and burning the two men holding down his torso. They hold tight, screaming along with the boy and the Shaman jumps into action. He leaps upon the bed, places the thumb of his right hand upon the forehead of the boy, between his eyes, and mutters the ancient words. A second passes and the boy ceases fighting, and falls into an induced sleep. The Shaman turns to the woman who had called him here and shakes his head solemnly. There is nothing he can do. This boy will die, and if they are not careful, he might take the village with him.

Transmission & Vectors

Random mutation of the genes, cannot be trasmitted or passed on.

Symptoms

Wild and uncontrollable channeling of Xaos

Treatment

If caught early enough, a tonic of soulgrass, clove, and udemar, imbued with regression runes, can slow the progress of Xaosanthia. This makes the condition manageable for no longer than a decade, after which the afflict will inevitably succumb to the disease.

Prognosis

Eventual death is certain. If it is treated successfully, fits will be limited to only when explicit channeling occurs so those afflicted are discouraged from ever attempting to channel thier Xaos. The treatment will slowly become less and less effective and within a decade the afflicted will inevitably perish.
