Sons of Trivia

"Who won at Tanagra?"
  "At Tanagra!"
"The Meritocracy won at Tanagra! At Tanagra!"
"No! They did not win, not at Tanagra, never at Tanagra, Tanagra's not real!"
  "Ooooh."
  "Aaah."
"Quiet, monkeys! You disrespect the holy wine leaves! Learn!"

Introduction

An unusual military formation for the Terran Meritocracy, the Sons of Trivia, despite their nonindicative name, were a powerful volunteer military force tasked by the Cosmopolitan and Fatima Gene-lines with anti-terrorist activities, special forces, tactical intervention and armed recon.

Demographics

Living in isolation in one the more secure worlds of the Meritocracy, on the border of the Gold, Silver and Arctic Fox Gene-Factions, the Sons, as they are commonly abbreviated, are unique, in being mostly male-comprised, while the meritocracy is female-heavy. This is partly explained by their being composed exclusively of gene-mixes, all clone special-forces being immediately assigned to Ground-Anchor Battalions, whether male or female, with female clones being 3:2:0 in ratio to their male/other counterparts. Gene-mixes are more balanced, reaching 50:46:4 ratios. Despite all this, the Sons of trivia have a 20:1:1 male/female/other ratio. All other things being equal, the extra-curricular activities of the group seem more friendly to a segment of the Terran population.

Unit composition

  • Each Fratery(see demographics) is composed of 10 Knights and a corporal.

  •
  • Each Company is composed of 5 Frateries, three Sarjeants and a Commander.

  •
  • Each Legion is composed of six Companies and led by a Major, who is supported by a Captain, who runs a ship, usually staffed by 280+ personnel, so the captain is usually nominally at least as important as the Major.

  •
  • Each Myriad is composed of five companies, and led by a Captain-General, leading approximately 1500 staff, and who is supported by a Commodore, who leads a fleet of five or so ships, plus escort vessels, totalling also approximately 1400 staff.

  •
  • The Sons of Trivia, as a whole, are referred to as a Plenitude, and lead by a Great Knight, with each two Myriads being led by the senior Captain-General amongst themselves. The Great Knight is supported by an Admiral, who runs the support fleets(mostly logistics) but also assigns all the Commodores, Captains, and in a pinch can command at sea. The Sons' combined fleet totals 25000 sailors, approximately, while the Plenitude adds almost 30000 Knights to that total.

    Sociology and cultural norms.

Among Meritocracy citizens, the Sons are known to be a little cooky, but harmless, and both knowledgeable in their own fields, and valued as specialists in a pinch, for a variety of disciplines.

Some of their more unusual hobbies known to the sons include military re-enactments, video games and rpg sessions,

Among the sons, someone with deeper knowledge is called a Questioner, and is an unofficial organizer for their social events, and also a repository of their oral traditions, of which there are many. One of which: trivia night, from which they get their name, is below:

    Trivia Night

    "What say you, Brother Bors?"

    "It's trivia time!"

"What was that?" Putting his hand to his hear like he didn't hear a thing.

    "It is time for trivia!"

    "What was that?"

"It is time that we took care of trivial things, like these enemies!"

"RAAAAAAAAAAAH!" The entire squad started screaming, and attacked viciously the Tlalor, leaving no survivors.

"Ok, now it's time for trivia, who won at Tanagra?"

    "Trick question: 'Tanagra's not real!'"

    "Correct!"
