I love the cultural/religious elements you add to this fever and the way you describe how it looks. I'm curious about one thing: is the condition only skin deep, or would it have effect on the organs and internal tissue too? Also a dumber question: could you technically cook something on their bodies if their body heat increases?
The condition for the most part is only skin deep, though from time to time Amber Shards might also grow within deeper tissues. As for the cooking question, I think that it might possibly work, though one would have to cook it right on the skin above one of the smoldering shards...which would make for quite the nasty food with all the ash and molten flesh leaking from the patient's wounds.
