Lunchigraphy

Good paint to you my friend.   ~ U'niblyio, House of Letters
Lunchigraphy is a rather strange kind of "greeting ritual" commonly performed by young -meaning just a couple centuries old- members of the Mecamii species.   While it originating as a very formal ritual reserved for special occasions and individuals, the practice has gradually evolved into becoming a casual greeting between two individuals as well as the somewhat unofficial salutation method for the Republic of Mâché.

Execution

A good greeting formula shouldn't only look good on my body, it also has to have a proper chromatic taste to it.   ~ Guillotine, Abattoir of Phat
At its most basic the Lunchigraphy ritual is performed by painting complex yet meaningless patterns -often called "pseudo-letters"- onto the Ruin Paper that composes the body of another Mecamii.   While this procedure might at first glance appear to be quite similar to the application of war or body paint, due to the Mecamii's unique physiology and the fact that the pseudo-letters are painted with Stone Ink, the individual being painted on is actually able to "taste" them, by slowly absorbing the Ink into their bodies.   Depending on how well the participants know each other and how much Stone Ink they have at their disposal, this ritual can take anywhere from a few seconds up to several years.   The longest continuous Lunchigraphy ritual ever performed lasted a total of 351 years 7 months and 16 days.

Components and tools

In order to properly perform an act of Lunchigraphy one requires at least one pot of freshly mixed Stone Ink and a suitable drawing tool, such as a fine brush or a feather quill.   Depending on the available resources the ritual can also be performed with far more different "flavors" of Stone Ink as well as far more specialized drawing tools.   Some of the most popular of these advanced tools is a so-called "Lash-Pen", which consists of a single eyelash fixed to a small handle, which allows one to draw incredibly fine and preceise lines.

Ink of Stone

Stone Ink is the sole type of nourishment consumed by the Mecamii. At it is basics it is a simple mixture of organic or inorganic pigments with a suitable carrier liquid such as water.   Depending on its composition the Ink takes on a different coloration, which is perceived as "flavor" by the Mecamii.

Outsiders Greeting

While Lunchigraphy is generally only performed between members of the Mecamii species -given that only they are able to truly "taste" its result- one rare occasion it might also be performed with one or multiple members of a different species.
